Devious
(NL), Death / Thrash
With Deity
Down Records since 2006
BIOGRAPHY:
After its establishment in 2000 by Guido de Jongh (guitar) and Frank
Schilperoort (drums) Devious played numerous crushing gigs internationally.
Having released their eponymous EP in 2002, the band signed to Spitzenburg
Records and established itself as one of the most promising acts originating
from The Netherlands. Subsequently, the year 2003 marked the release of their
first full-length album ‘Acts of Rage’. Upon its release the band shared stages
with the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Cryptopsy, Suffocation, Vader, Darkane,
Crowbar, Aborted, The Dillinger Escape Plan, God Dethroned, Malevolent Creation
and Dying Fetus.
In 2006 Devious successfully toured Europe with Brazilian
metal pioneers Krisiun. This tour, among several shorter ones, introduced the
band to countries like Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, Poland, Hungary,
Austria, Czech Republic and Slovenia.
Devious’ second full-length ‘Domain’, introducing vocalist
Coen Tabak, was released on February 1st 2007 by Deity Down Records. Besides 12
grooving death metal tracks, ‘Domain’ featured a professionally shot video of
the song ‘Room 302’, directed by Robin van Belzen. The album received critical
acclaim internationally by press and metal audiences alike. With this release
Devious proved itself to be a first class act in the extreme metal genre. On
‘Domain’ Devious combined modern death metal with the band's original thrash
roots in a unique way, keeping the emphasis on groove and variation.
In July 2008 original vocalist Arnold Oude Middendorp
returned to the fold, and re-introduced himself as Devious’ frontman at Zwarte
Cross Fest (NL), where the band was lined up alongside the likes of Merauder,
Exodus, Cynic, Moonspell and Obituary. Later in the year, out of hundreds of
Dutch bands Devious was selected to enter the finals of the ‘Support Slayer: 15
minutes Of Pain’ contest which had been organized by leading national radio
station 3FM and Mojo concerts. At the turn of the year, long time bassist Sven
van Toorn was replaced with Daniël Centiago.
Devious started recording their third full-length ‘Vision’
in February 2009, capturing eight pulverizing brand new songs. Main songwriter
and founding member Guido de Jongh assumed the role of producer along with
Jochem Jacobs (Textures). Jochem then handled the record’s mixing and mastering
process at Split Second Sound Studios in Amsterdam. Expectations ran high, yet
the team succeeded in surpassing every single one of them. ‘Vision’ will turn
out to be a crucial record in Devious’ career.
As of August 31st 2009 (world) and October 5th 2009
(UK/Eire) this new and exciting record will be available in stores through
Deity Down Records. Several club shows and festivals appearances will follow
before Devious’ December 2009 European tour in support of Entombed (Sweden) and
Merauder (USA) kicks off.
