Man, was für ein Brett! Die blutjungen Italiener von MURDER THERAPY machen auf
ihrem Debüt-Full Length wirklich so ziemlich alles richtig.
Wo andere neue Bands sich mangels Ideen und Trendanbiederungen den Wolf coren
und breakdownen, setzen sich MURDER THERAPY einfach hin und zeigen allen
kommerziellen Überlegungen den 6-Inches-Mittelfinger. Nicht, dass man jetzt
ausschließlich Oldschool-Elemente verwursten würde – weit gefehlt. Nein, das
Quintett fährt ein ultrabrutales, technisches Brett, das sich ansatzweise
durchaus bei modernen Deathcore-Kapellen bedient, diese Einflüsse aber so
geschickt in ihren stark von IMMOLATION und MORBID ANGEL beeinflussten, aber
etwas kühler klingenden Sound einbindet, dass die Aufmerksamkeit des Hörers nie
durch stoisches Kampfturnen unterbrochen wird. Und hat man die krummen Beats
von Drumtier Marco Bolognini erstmal verinnerlicht, lässt sich zu den Tracks
dieses von Soundtüftler Stefano Morabino hervorragend in Szene gesetzten Albums
auch trefflich abschädeln. Songs wie „The Scourge“, Staring At The Zodiac“ oder
„Hidden In Lies“ treiben einfach jedem Anhänger modernen technischen Death
Metals, der trotz Frickel-Arien nie den Song aus den Augen verliert,
Freudentränen in die Augen. Und das ist auch gut so, denn auf die teils doch
sehr holprigen Texten sollte man keine zu genauen Blicke werfen. Hieran darf
man in Zukunft ein wenig arbeiten, um das Paket noch runder zu machen.
Mit MURDER THERAPY wird aufregend und eindrucksvoll aufgezeigt, wie sich der
Death Metal in Zukunft entwickeln könnte, ohne belanglos oder totgenudelt zu
wirken. Daumen hoch für diese blutjunge Truppe, die gehypten Kram wie
beispielsweise HACKNEYED zehn Mal in den Sack steckt.

Der Opener ‚The Scourge’ zeigt, wo die Reise hingeht:
technisch anspruchsvoller Death Metal mit zahllosen Breaks, Growls und selteneren heiseren
Screams. Die erst Ende 2007 gegründeten MURDER THERAPY aus Bologna wissen, was
sie tun. Zwar wird nicht durchgeblastet, aber auch im Midtempo regiert das
entschiedene Riffgehacke, wie etwa in ‚Extra-Ordinary Perfect Machine’. Ein
schredderndes, hohes Gitarren-Inferno lässt in ‚Staring At The Zodiac’
aufhorchen. Am entspanntesten kommt ‚Equilibrium’ aus den Boxen, wobei
treibendes Drumming und eine im Hintergrund herumsägende Gitarre dafür sorgen,
dass die Spannung nicht ganz nachlässt. Selten bedienen sich MURDER THERAPY
auch DeathCore-Elementen wie eingeschobener Beatdowns, ohne sich jedoch davon
vereinnahmen zu lassen. Der in Zahlen zehnminütige Quasi-Titelsong ‚Delirium’
zeigt MURDER THERAPY am vielschichtigsten, auch wenn knapp die Hälfte aus
Rückkopplungsgefiepe, Stille und abschließendem unheilsschwangeren
Atmosphären-Gedöns besteht. Davor allerdings wandelt sich stampfender
Midtempo-Rhythmus zu Blast, auf den auch nicht verzichtet werden kann, wenn
sich ein postcoriger Teil mit Screams und empathisch leidenden, klar klingenden
Gitarren anschließt. Alles in allem können aber wohl vor allem Technik-freaks
ohne Hang zu Experimentellem an MURDER THERAPY Gefallen finden.

Murder Therapy is one of the most brutal Italian death metal bands I know.
After the release of the 2008 EP 'The Therapy', they signed a deal with Deity
Down to record their first full-length; the result is 'Symmetry of Delirium'.
I don't think the band should be
disappointed with their first birth. The songs they wrote have all the things
the general death fan likes; rather brutal technical death metal with growling
and grunting vocals, fast blast beating parts and grooving riffs. Many
influences can be heard in the songs, but that isn't harmful, no it works even
positive. It feels a bit like coming home, but you can't really put a finger on
it where you heard it before. It's very obvious what the lyrics are about, what
else can you expect from a band that's called Murder Therapy?
Fans of bands like Morbid Angel,
Cannibal Corpse, Immolation, Cephalic Carnage and Nile will find many things of
their interest in the songs of Murder Therapy. A rather short and brutal
record, but it's quality over quantity this time.

Da oggi
non servirà più sconfinare per trovare gloria nel death metal. I bolognesi
Murder Therapy irrompono arrogantemente sul mercato con “Simmetry Of Delirium”,
un album scritto bene, suonato meglio e registrato in maniera impeccabile. La
produzione infatti è a cura di Stefano Morabito (16th Cellar studio di Roma già
noti per gli Hour Of Penance e i Fleshgod Apocalypse) che si è superato per
conferire ai Murder Therapy un suono letale, vigoroso, potente e a tratti
malato. Mezz’ora o poco più, questa la durata di “Simmetry Of Delirium”, un
lavoro dove su una batteria a livelli mostruosi (18 anni appena per Marco
“Samu” Bolognini) sono imperniate le due asce (D’Adamo e Worrell) che intricano
dei riff ora veloci, ora dissonanti, conferendo alle tracce un vigore sempre
nuovo e sempre trascinante. Ottima, a corollario di quanto detto, la voce di
Riccardo Meschiari, eccezionale nell’alternare al growl uno scream che solo la
più feroce delle torture può partorire. “The Scourge” irrompe subito come un
macigno, a tutta velocità, e sul primo break vi si staccherà la testa sul giro
pesante e pressante di chitarra. Questa canzone è pura brutalità, non avrebbe
sfigurato su “Antithesis” degli Origin. Dopo l’incipit, a chiarire subito le
intenzioni del disco, arriva “Extra-Ordinary Perfect Machine”, canzone efferata
nella sua brutalità ma dove i Murder Therapy dimostrano subito di saper variare
la loro proposta, rallentando a tratti e mostrando le grandi capacità dei due
chitarristi. Interessante anche l’intermezzo strumentale “Equilibrium”, puro
virtuosismo strumentale a tutti i livelli che cede il passo a “Two Shots In
Colebrook”, composizione isterica dominata dalla velocità. Pause? Macché.
“Hidden In Lies” esalta il cantato cedendo spazio alle contorsioni
chitarristiche di “Asymmetry”, giusto il tempo di prendere fiato per godersi
“Delirium”, canzone che è la summa dei Murder Therapy, e che inizia in maniera
calma, come una discussione, salvo poi degenerare in una colluttazione violenta
in attesa dell’omicidio. La furia iconoclasta del brano è dominata dalle
chitarre taglienti, a tratti molto Immolation, e alla fine “Delirium” sfocerà
in un attacco d’isteria nel finale. La sensazione, dopo mezz’ora d’ascolto, è
quella della collera, del fanatismo. Il death metal dei Murder Therapy dimostra
la sua superiorità nel voler ridefinire il paradigma del death italico. Assieme
a pochi altri, di prepotenza, oggi ci sono anche loro.

L'EP "The
Therapy", uscito poco più di un anno fa, ci aveva mostrato una band
con grande carisma, capace di proporre il death metal da un'altra prospettiva,
determinata a spezzare la monotonia di un panorama underground dominato da
manieristi di vecchia o nuova scuola. Se un'EP di soli 10 minuti non era
sufficiente ad esprimere un giudizio concreto sui Murder Therapy, il
debutto "Symmetry Of Delirium" è quel genere di disco che non
si ci aspetta da una band underground, quel genere di disco che, sulle prime
battute, lascia l'ascoltatore capace di una sola esclamazione ("minchia!"),
seguita dalla domanda: "ma sono italiani?". Perchè diciamolo,
forse per un sentimento patriottico, noi abbiamo la tendenza ad esaltare molti
gruppi che, se non fossero italiani, probabilmente non avrebbero la nostra
attenzione. E i Murder Therapy non sono uno di quei gruppi.
Freschi del contratto con la Deity Down Records e degli ultimi
cambiamenti in lineup, che vedono l'entrata di Sean e Samu (già nei Chaos Among
Nameless) rispettivamente come secondo chitarrista e batterista, i Murder
Therapy propongono un death metal sperimentale che si esprime in composizioni
dalle ritmiche spontaneamente complesse, con guitarwork imprevedibilmente
psicotico e drumming sempre pronto ai tempi più complessi, affiancate a linee
vocali che spaziano da un growl cavernoso ad uno screaming graffiante.
Il songwriting si spinge ostinatamente lontano da tradizionalismi vari,
lasciando emergere l'empirismo compositivo dei musicisti che, pur facendo perno
su un'approccio principalmente veloce e tecnico, arricchiscono il platter
inserendo tra le battute alcuni spunti "melodici" evocativi che
permeano nella tessitura del riffing aggressivo e spietato. In parole più
semplici, ci troviamo davanti a canzoni decise e d'impatto che, tuttavia,
riescono ad assumere uno spessore atmosferico tutt'altro che insignificante;
sebbene i Murder Thrapy, per gusto o forse per non azzardare troppo, si siano
concentrati più sul dare una fluidità generale al disco, si evidenzia comunque
la volontà di creare quel clima di cupezza che ricorda bands come Meshuggah o Decapitated
di "Organic Hallucinosis", abbracciando anche soluzioni care a band
recentemente uscite con ottimi lavori come gli Ulcerate.
L'esiguità della tracklist e l'ottima produzione, a cura dei 16th Cellar Studio
(Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hour Of Penance), contribuiscono a rendere questo debutto
accessibile ad ogni tipo di ascoltatore, risultando ottimo per chi ama la
potenza e, allo stesso tempo, valido anche per chi è interessato anche al lato
più oscuro e metafisico della musica.

Ad un
solo anno dall’uscita dell’ottimo promo “The Therapy”, i bolognesi Murder
Therapy tornano alla carica, freschi di contratto con la Deity Down Records,
con l’attesissimo(almeno per il sottoscritto) e tanto agognato primo
full-lenght “Symmetry Of Delirium”.
Il combo emiliano con il succitato promo mi aveva lasciato senza parole per l’incredibile
qualità del sound propostoci, perciò le mie speranze per l’album erano molte ed
ero sicuro che i ragazzi non mi avrebbero assolutamente deluso. L’act italiano
infatti non solo ha rispettato ma ha anche superato le attese con un platter a
dir poco grandioso, che possiede tutto ciò che si può desiderare da un disco
death metal: cattiveria e ferocia(ce n’è in quantità industriale), atmosfere
malvagie e oscure e tecnica sopraffina.
Oltre a tutto questo i ragazzi dimostrano di avere tante idee e di essere
particolarmente ispirati, rendendo così la proposta personale e ancora più
interessante. Ascoltando “Symmetry Of Delirium” si intuisce immediatamente che
il sound si muove con grande agilità e sicurezza su lidi classici(è palese che
il death metal americano è il loro pane quotidiano), infarcendo però le tracce
di idee nuove, ottenendo così un sound sì old school ma al contempo moderno.
Suonando metal estremo americano è ovvio che il disco sia all’insegna della
violenza, infatti le nove canzoni presenti sul full trasudano brutalità grazie
ad un drumming veloce e pestatissimo, ad un riffing coriaceo e pungente e a
linee vocali belluine; i deathsters però non si limitano a martellarci ma
prestano molta attenzione alle melodie, costruendo pattern di chitarra
accattivanti ed ipnotici.
Come se non bastasse i cinque ci sciorinano una tecnica invidiabile ma mai fine
a se stessa; ciò a cui puntano i nostri è essere virtuosi e tecnici ma con
intelligenza, facendo in modo che i brani risultino comunque di facile
assimilazione. Nominare un brano piuttosto che un altro non sarebbe giusto e
anzi sarebbe difficoltoso dato che tutti quanti sono pregevoli, difatti il
disco merita di essere ascoltato ogni volta interamente perché perdere anche
una sola canzone sarebbe un peccato mortale.
In conclusione i Murder Therapy hanno pubblicato un album che di sicuro
riscuoterà successo non solo su suolo italiano, ma anche all’estero, perché
hanno tutte le carte in regola per mettersi in luce. Se non l’aveste capito
l’acquisto di “Symmetry Of Delirium” è assolutamente consigliato!

Murder Therapy laat er geen gras
over groeien. Na oprichting in oktober 2007 debuteerde de Italiaanse death
metalband het jaar erop met de EP ‘Murder Therapy’, scoorde daarmee een deal
met het Bredase Deity Down Records en leverde eerder deze maand zijn eerste
full-length af. Ook in muzikaal opzicht houden de Italianen van opschieten. Op
‘Symmetry Of Delirium’ werkt het vijftal zich in hoog tempo al beukend en
blastbeatend door een half uur woest groovende death metal.
De sound is zo Amerikaans als het
maar kan en overeenkomsten met bands als Cannibal Corpse, maar ook een Job For
A Cowboy liggen er voortdurend duimendik bovenop. Maar daar hoeft Murder
Therapy zich zeker niet voor te schamen, want kwalitatief gezien staat het
materiaal als een huis. De negen sloophamers van brute blastbeats, logge
grooves en hier en daar een technische kwinkslag hakken er keihard in en zijn
zowaar vrij onderhoudend te noemen. Al met al een knap visitekaartje.

Uit de psychiatrische instelling
van Bologna ontsnapte volgende patient. Hij is in behandeling tegen een
psychopathisch tempo met irreguliere ritmes en heeft vaak last van
stuiptrekkende melodie-opstoten. Daarbij vertoont hij ook schizofrene
afwijkingen, die we ook al toeschreven aan mathcorepatienten of zelfs
Meshuggah. Hij is niet in staat om in een maat eenzelfde drummotoriek aan te
houden en is waarschijnlijk in het bezit van een roestige sloophamer, waarmee
hij inhumaan zwaar kan tekeergaan. Bejaarden, hartlijders, gevoelige
luisteraars en tegenhangers van brutale doodsmuziek wordt aangeraden de patiënt
niet te benaderen.

Murder Therapy from Bologna,
Italy, was formed sometime in 2007 and previously released a self-financed EP
called 'The Therapy' in 2008. They recently signed a deal with the Dutch label
Deity Down Records and the result is this murderous piece of Death Metal
brutality. The slaughtering starts immediately after just a few seconds of
introduction and this rather young band takes common influences of technical
Death Metal acts like Immolation or Cephalic Carnage and more modern Deathcore
stuff. Both well balanced, but always on an extreme high level of musical
skills. The good and clean production is another great contribution to this
release. So be sure nothing gets drowned in shitty sounding sequences. Murder
Therapy's lyrics deal with serial killers and other psychopaths. What else did
you expect? The grunting and growling vocals meet lots of disharmonic riffs
with extreme precision and remarkable drum parts. Their songs are sometimes
hard to follow and unpredictable, but 'Symmetry Of Delirium' is a demonstration
of technical and brutal music the way it should be played. Everyone who's
interested in these Italian guys shouldn't hesitate to get his (or her) claws
on this intense release with a total playing time of about 33 minutes.

year Murder Therapy from Italy surprised us pleasantly with their demo, ‘The Therapy’. They gained a lot of good criticisms with
their very well chosen band name, anyone can picture a good murder therapy at
certain points in his life, but the music appeared to be invitational as well.
They were well underway with negotiations with the Dutch record label Deity
Down records at that time. In the promotional material, they carefully express
their gratitude to the fact I took the time to interview them, last time. The
pleasure is all mine, especially now that I know that besides being a fine
band, they are also very professional and kind blokes, with a clear view of
what they want with their music. At that point I said that maybe Murder Therapy
wasn’t the most original band on the globe, it is entertainment on a high
level, which is worth a lot too. Well, it seems that the factor of originality
has been improved upon.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression, so they say. So when
you have a debut album, set if off right away, without an intro, without
hesitation. Scream from the top of your lungs, blast all you can and show the
world what you have in store from the melodic shelf, all at the same time. That
must have been the idea, sort of. From the first second, you’re in, not to get
out until the end. They play very solidly and they are tight, but not rigid.
The sound maintains a certain playful spontaneity and at the same time it
sounds way more mature than most of the bands in this genre. A hint of blast
beat here and there, although it’s mid-tempos most of the time, with overdoses
of double bass drumming. Screams and grunts take the spotlight manically in
turns.
You wouldn’t say that this is only Murder Therapy’s second studio experience,
as the piece sounds solid and sturdy. From the third song on the
experimentation becomes more and more apparent. There’s some experimenting with
different bars, but then again, the song is called ‘Staring At The Zodiac’, so
that’s an open invitation for experimenting. Compared to the demo, it generally
is a lot less straight forward and somewhat more psychotic which is easily
explained by the fact that they have a new drummer in their ranks. So, there is
some very clear form of growth detectable, developed in less than a year. Where
will that end? Unlikely with this effort, I am sure. I still think it is a very
promising band, gulping with enthusiasm. I just hope that the newly found
possibilities on drums, don’t encourage them to stray from the line they have
walked until now, with stranger breaks and a less full metal mentality. But I
am not too afraid they would do that. By the way, there is a hidden track at
the end, but it’s not really a song.

Therapy uit Italië heeft ons vorig jaar al blij weten te verrassen met hun demo
‘The
Therapy’. Ze zaaiden veel lof met hun sterk gekozen bandnaam, iedereen kan
zich ten slotte op gezette tijden wel wat bij voorstellen bij een
moordtherapie, maar daarnaast bleek ook de muziek uitnodigend te werken. Ze
waren in die tijd al bezig met een platendeal, die inmiddels dus ook binnen is,
met het Nederlandse Deity Down Records uit Breda. In het promotionele materiaal
zit nog een voorzichtig dankwoord voor het feit dat ik ze heb willen
interviewen, de vorige keer. Het genoegen is geheel mijnerzijds, want daardoor
weet ik dat het naast een prima band, ook nog eens zeer professionele en
relaxte gasten zijn, met een helder beeld van wat ze met deze band willen, op
muzikaal vlak. Ik gaf destijds al aan dat Murder Therapy misschien niet de
meest originele band ter wereld is, ze bieden wel topvermaak. En dat is ook wat
waard. Maar, die originaliteit is behoorlijk aan gesleuteld.
Je krijgt maar één kans op een eerste indruk, dus als je eenmaal je debuutalbum
uitbrengt, begin hem dan ook maar gelijk, zonder intro, vol overgave. Schreeuw
uit je tenen, ram er flink op los en laat de wereld weten wat je op het vlak
van melodieuze herrie in huis hebt. Zo moet ongeveer de gedachte geweest zijn
en aldus geschiedde. Vanaf de eerste seconde zit je er in. En dat blijft gewoon
zo. Het samenspel is loeistrak, maar niet rigide. Het behoudt een speelse
spontaniteit en tegelijkertijd klinkt het volwassener dan de meeste van hun
genre genoten. Een vleugje blast hier en daar, hoewel meestens mid-tempo met
veel dubbel bass drumwerk. Screams en grunts wisselen elkaar maniakaal af.
Je zou niet zeggen dat het slechts de tweede studio ervaring is van Murder
Therapy, want het ding staat als een huis. Vanaf het derde nummer wordt wat
geëxperimenteerd met maatvoering, maar ja, dat nummer heet dan ook ‘Staring At
The Zodiac’, dus dat nodigt wel gelijk uit te experimenteren. Ten opzichte van
de demo is het over het geheel genomen wat minder straight forward en wat
psychotischer geworden, wat zonder meer te verklaren is door de personele
wisseling op de drums. Er valt dus wel degelijk groei te bespeuren, ontwikkeld
in minder dan een jaar tijd. Waar zal dat eindigen? Vast niet hiermee, ik blijf
het een veelbelovende band vinden, die barst van het enthousiasme. Ik hoop
alleen dat ze dat niet teveel gaan uiten in rare maten en the full metal
identiteit die ze nu hebben daarmee aan de kant zetten. Maar ik ben er ook niet
echt bang voor. Er is overigens een verborgen track op het eind, maar dat is
geen echt nummer.

vuotta kasassa ollut Murder Therapy ei ole varsinainen Italian lahja
death metal -genrelle, vaikka eittämättä yritystä bändillä onkin. Debyyttilevy Symmetry
of Delirium esittelee syyt paremmin kuin sanat voivat kuvailla.
Jenkkiläisen death metal -mallin mukaan toteutettu SoD on käytännössä kaikesta
velkaa amerikkalaiselle tyylisuunnalle. Brutaalia, raskasta, kikkailevaa ja
näennäisen teknistä murjomista reippaalla tempolla kun on saatu nauttia rapakon
toiselta puolelta tyylisuunnan ammoisista ajoista asti. Cannibal Corpse
ja muut genren nimibändit ovat taatusti Murder Therapylle tuttuja nimiä, mutta
valitettavasti italobändi ei ole itse osannut tehdä hyviä tahi kiinnostavia
biisejä. Tusinariffejä tarjolla on vastaavasti sitäkin enemmän.
Puolituntinen paketti rymistelee alusta loppuun raskaasti, mutta mielikuvituksettomasti.
Lopputuloksena on kuin keskitasoinen demobändi, mutta astetta paremmilla
soundeilla. Soitto kulkee hyvin, tuotanto on kohdallaan ja vokalisti örisee
persoonattoman vakuuttavasti, mutta biiseissä ei ole sen enempää mitään omaa
otetta kuin tarttuvuuttakaan. Kaikkiaan varsin keskitasoinen levytys ilman
selkeää viehätys- tai ärsytyspintaa.

Murder
Symmetry’s Symmetry of Delirium shines in its technicality and
production, but brings little in terms of palpable art. We have a hard time
giving negative ratings to bands whose musical chops are high, or who obviously
put a lot of time into their work. Symmetry of Delirium abounds with
very intense and well-executed technical deathdom, and is brought to you via a
powerful and full production.
Despite
these positive aspects, there is very little appreciable difference between
songs on Symmetry of Delirium. Sure, you can tell that one track starts
with a moody intro, another doesn’t begin with a blast beat, or another is the
"slow" song, but once Murder Therapy get going, it all might as well
be the same song... and that song has been heard before. A lot.
To
Murder Therapy’s credit, there are no false metal elements to their music. No
hint of metalcore, no attempts at bringing something highly commercial in a decidedly
uncommercial genre. But the songs, as pieces of musical enjoyment, are largely
bland and interchangeable. We’ll keep calling albums like these
"good" because of the depth of ability and execution, but at the rate
technically phenomenal and sonically brutal albums like this come out, pretty
soon it’ll be average to mediocre.
Still,
if you’re a big fan of tech death, we can recommend it to you. Like, if you
love Unique Leader’s roster, or think Suffocation’s Blood Oath is album
of the year, or can really get into dense, busy playing of heavy, distorted
music purely for the sake of it, then listen. If you want an album that abounds
with technical prowess *and* has personality and song separation, get Thanatos’
Justifiable Genocide.

Lately,
there has been a lot of reviews for Italian band on AM. At the best, the
standard is high, even production-wise, which hasn't always been the case when
talking about metal music recorded in the homecountry of pizza and Ilona
"la Cicciolina" Staller. Young band Murder Therapy, who formed in
2007, are now ready with their debut album 'Symmetry of Delirium'.
"Psychotic
death metal" is how they represent themselves. Take brutal and technical
North American death metal (from Dying Fetus to Immolation domains), mix in
some modern deathcore and there you have it in a nutshell. I find the term
"psychotic" fitting, as the songs have more rhythm changes than a
Rocco Siffredi movie and you definitely do not know what the hell is going to
happen next. The tempo fluctuates from blast beats to heavy mid-paced torsion.
The drummer isn't short for different beats for sure. The guitars maul listener
with sharp riffage and at times open-stringed disharmonies take over. It's
okay, but I just can't stand those open strings parts, to tell the truth, since
they simply sound fucking annoying! The vocals are typical low growling, but
sanguinary distorted screaming really show how rabid it can get. I believe the
rest of the band gave everything they had. Sound-wise this is good, because
even though the music can get chaotic at times, every instrument is still
heard. No need to mention it is heavy... But no matter how brutally it all was
made, there is one gigantic problem: Where the fuck are the songs?!?!
The
lyrics, which handle murderers, perverts, anti-Christian matters and so on,
must be mentioned for their partial delight. "Cotton soaked in alcohol, I
stick it in my anus then set it on fire" did make me laugh. Most of the
lyrics are grave, as usual, if partly more interesting than anything usual
heard on a death metal album.
Sadly,
all the energy packed here without much of anything unforgettable, goes to
waste. I really think "psychotic death metal" is a fitting label for
this, but I still want songs, damn it.

In una parola: Schiacciasassi! Questo è il vocabolo che,
dopo pochissimi attimi di ascolto, mi è saltato in mente così da definire il
sound dei Murder Therapy. Un termine che però non è sufficiente in
quanto, da solo, non rende assoluta giustizia ai nostri agguerriti bolognesi.
Nati nell'ottobre del 2007 per volere del chitarrista Francesco
D'Adamo, registrano l'EP d'esordio The Therapy l'anno successivo,
ottenendo un buon riscontro dalla critica; a distanza di due anni, li troviamo
ad esordire sulla lunga distanza grazie al contratto ottenuto con la Deity
Down Records. Registrato nei 16th Cellar Studio di Roma (Vomit
the Soul, Hour of Penance e Fleshgod Apocalypse), l'album
contiene nove rasoiate ben assestate, per la durata di una mezz'oretta circa,
lasciando immediatamente intendere l'enorme passo in avanti compiuto, rispetto
alla pur validissima prima fatica.
Simmetry of Delirium è un distillato di
incontaminato e ferale death metal, per lo più di stampo americano, che a onor
del vero non contiene soluzioni particolarmente originali, ma può vantare dalla
sua parte un sound da far invidia ad acts ben più blasonati, con melodie -
termine questo da prendere con le pinze - malsane ed una certa atmosfera ostile
di fondo che lo differenzia dalle consuete uscite del genere. L'album suona
malvagio, incazzato (concedetemi il francesismo) e psicotico come pochi,
trascinato dall'impressionante ugola di Riccardo Meschiari,
sapientemente bilanciata tra screams deliranti ed un possente ed intelleggibile
growl, e da una macchina tritatutto che corrisponde al nome di Marco
"Samu" Bolognini, giovanissimo batterista, vera arma in più della
band. Tra numerosi cambi di tempo, stop and go al cardiopalma e fucilate di
blast-beat, l'ensemble romagnolo non concede respiro all'ascoltatore, che può
tirare il fiato solamente grazie alla strumentale Equilibrium, dove
troviamo ancora una volta lo zampino di Marco dietro le pelli a fare la
differenza, e con Assimetry, in cui i nostri dimostrano di saper far
male anche quando non raggiungono velocità da capogiro. Tales of the
Bizzarre è invece la traccia più bella dell'album, praticamente un sunto di
cosa i Murder Therapy siano in grado di tirar fuori dai loro strumenti,
ovvero grandi capacità tecniche unite ad una sapiente prova interpretativa. Si
chiude in bellezza con Delirium, la quale parte sorprendentemente lenta,
per poi esplodere nella parte centrale con delle devastanti accelerazioni
sonore tali da procurarvi puro dolore fisico. Come già sottolineato, pur
possedendo un'ottima tecnica di fondo, opportunamente sfoggiata durante tutta
la durata dell'album, è l'atmosfera generale che si respira il punto di forza
del quintetto: armonie insalubri, da manicomio, fanno capolino in ogni traccia,
frutto questo di un songwriting di alto livello che unito alla furia cieca e
incontrollata dei riffs della collaudata coppia d'asce Worrel/D'Adamo e
alla sopra citata terremotante batteria vi trasmetteranno emozioni fuori dal
comune. A completare l'opera, troviamo un artwork decisamente curato ed
accattivante ed una produzione che esalta decisamente le caratteristiche della
band, con suoni corposi ma taglienti come lame di rasoio.
A volte viene da chiedersi: ma si può suonare così
violenti e veloci senza risultare vuoti ed inespressivi allo stesso tempo? La
risposta la troverete tra i solchi di questo supporto di silicio. La mia
impressione finale è che il combo bolognese debba ancora dare il meglio di sé,
perché le potenzialità per fare un ulteriore salto di qualità non mancano.
Intanto invito caldamente tutti gli amanti del genere a dare un ascolto a Simmetry
of Delirium e, non da meno, prendere in seria considerazione i Murder
Therapy. Per il resto… ai posteri l'ardua sentenza!

Ik ben
over het algemeen geen fan van Italiaanse deathmetal, enkele
uitzonderingen daargelaten. Aan dat rijtje met uitzonderingen heb ik nu Murder
Therapy toegevoegd wat vooral komt doordat deze band zo on-Italiaaans klinkt.
Het debuut album Symmetry Of Delirium ademt namelijk van het begin tot het eind
pure US deathmetal, een soort Six Feet Under in een vijfde versneling. Vanaf de
eerste seconde gaat het gas op de plank en pas in het laatste nummer
gaat het tempo pas omlaag. Zelfs in het instrumentale intermezzo Equilibrium
beuken de mannen genadeloos hard door. Vanwege de loodzware rifs en mega brute
vocalen lijkt het geheel op het eerste gehoor al snel eentonig te worden, maar
het getrainde oor zal opmerken dat de nummers desondanks toch best wel pakkend
zijn. Het enige jammere aan Symmetry Of Delerium is de wat iele productie, want
anders had het geheel nog veel lomper geklonken. Maar een veelbelovend debuut
album is het absoluut.

Fijn
label, dat Deity Down. Altijd degelijk materiaal uitbrengen zonder in excessen
te vervallen. Deze keer brengen ze het Italiaanse Murder Therapy uit.
Het geloof in deze Scuderia is groot aangezien dit pas hun eerste langspeler
is. Death metal, dat spreekt voor zich.
En we
zijn vertrokken. Ritmewijzigingen vliegen wars van doorriffend en hysterisch
gitaargeweld door de koptelefoon, overgoten met een zanger die op zijn
duizendste gemak doorburrelt. Nog even het midtempo doorbreken met lange headbangpassages
om vervolgens terug te keren naar een climax-opbouwend instrumentaaltje.
Behoorlijk veel dynamiek dus. Eventjes namedroppen: Dying Fetus, Cannibal
Corpse, Moker. Namedroppen is trouwens niet zo simpel. Ik probeer hiermee
ook steevast aan te geven in welke mate er kwaliteit aanwezig is. In dit geval
hoef je niet veel te dimmen qua originaliteit of kwaliteit. Deze Italianen
kunnen een degelijk nummer in elkaar zetten en hebben eveneens de sound mee.
Qua speelwijze wijken ze vooral af door veel hooggestemde akkoorden te spelen,
zoals vele math- en deathcore-bands dat aan hen voordeden. En toch horen ze
daar absoluut niet in thuis, daarvoor is het veel te bruut en is de boertige
death metal-vibe te fel aanwezig.
Enkel
nog het middelste nummer Equilibrium (perfecte titel) even vermelden. Op
dit instrumentale nummer evenaart deze band in mijn ogen Meshuggah in
diens speelwijze. Voor mijn part mogen ze dat vaker doen. Afsluiten doe ik met
deze band een dikke voldoende te geven. Hou ze in de gaten, ze kunnen nog
potten en poten gaan breken in de toekomst.

Het
muzikale niveau waar sommige bands mee debuteren is soms toch wel belachelijk
hoog. Neem nu deze band Murder Therapy, waarvan enkele leden natuurlijk wel wat
ervaring opgedaan hebben bij bands waarvan niemand ooit gehoord heeft (en zeker
niet buiten Italië). Toch slagen deze mannen erin een plaat in elkaar te
draaien in de overtreffende trap waar menig collega band een puntje aan kan
zuigen. De in eigen beheer uitgebrachte EP “The Therapy” werd internationaal al
zeer goed ontvangen, Deity Down Records zag er wel heil in om het debuut van
Murder Therapy uit te brengen.
En het is heftige shit geworden, zo heftig dat het zeker niet aan de gemiddelde
deathmetal fan besteed is. Zelf noemen ze het psychotic deathmetal. Een goede
omschrijving als je het mij vraagt, het is inderdaad het gevoel wat overheerst
als je dit ondergaat. Als vertrekpunt zou je het moeilijkere werk van
Immolation of een Hate Eternal kunnen nemen, maar dan zeker toch stukken
progressiever en chaotischer. De gitaristen spelen zeker geen simpele
gitaarriffs, en de overgangen zijn vaak jazz-achtig te noemen.
De songstructuren zijn hectisch maar gelukkig wel te volgen, dit in
tegenstelling tot enkele soortgenoten. Als zo vaak met dit type platen zijn de
eerste nummers het meest over the top en daardoor het moeilijkst te bevatten.
De overige nummers van Symmetry Of Delirium bevallen me dan op dit moment dan
ook zeker wat beter. En er zit duidelijk een opbouw in deze plaat, die naar het
eind toe wat dreigender en neurotischer wordt. Met zijn half uur is er over de
gehele linie dan ook meer dan genoeg variatie om als geheel indruk te maken.
Ook typisch is de vrij lompe putgrunt, wat de muziek net wat bruter maakt, wat
je eigenlijk niet verwacht bij dit type deathmetal bands. Na meerdere (en dan bedoel
ik meerdere) luisterbuurten stoort mij eigenlijk alleen nog de (metalcore)
scream die ook hier weer her en der onnodig opduikt. Het irritante einde (een
doordringende pieptoon) maakt dat je elke keer weer bewust het einde van deze
plaat meemaakt. Een mooi moment om te bedenken of je deze sonische aanslag nog
een keer wilt ondergaan of dat het mooi is geweest.
Zo alles bij elkaar toch duidelijk een band die de grenzen van het genre maar
weer eens opzoekt. Geniaal of te ver gezocht, dat blijft de vraag. Mijn
favoriete muziekstijl zal het nooit worden, maar deze plaat zal zeker nog eens
langskomen voor de broodnodige variatie. Kan het jou niet gek genoeg, dan is
dit zeker een aanrader.

mutilate, annihilate, desecrate, eradicate, obliterate, masticate, and murder
therapy done by words doesn’t sooth at all. In other words, I still harbor a
strong urge to kill you, me and the whole of humanity before dawn.
Unfortunately I haven’t figured out how to do just that, so let’s talk about
Murder Therapy instead. Them here fuckers are from Italy still, Bologna to be
precise, and the reason I wrote still is because I once committed a review, or
thereabout, on a really rather fine demo courtesy of their mancunts. “The
therapy” exactly.
“The Therapy” was a debut and so
is “Symmetry of delirium”, the latter sort of a double debut even, like a
virgin getting it up the ass and cunt at the same time. Not really, Deity Down
Records releasing Murder Therapy’s first full-length the whole and unjuicy
story behind the double-penetration I just made you imagine. Or not, either way
I don’t give a fuck, for I have now written enough bullshit to make this review
look good from afar.
Murder Therapy deals in death and
the death at hand is of a blasted and burly character. Much like last, though
since last they have certainly turned into a tighter, heavier, and simply
better unit. Not only thanks to themselves, mind you, as Mr. Morabito and his
16th Cellar certainly deserves a mention for this not exactly new but certainly
improved version of Gangbang Therapy. In other words, the production is a
quality one, here being both pounding drums and otherwise heaviness, though I
wouldn’t mind if the bass had seen itself turned up a couples of notches.
“Symmetry of delirium” might not
be a classic on par with whatever the Bee Gee’s never released, hardly anything
is, but both fuck and me knows the Italians into delirium performs proper death
with the second best of them. What they need now is a trademark. Very
recommended if you happen to be a fresh death-head, only recommended if you are
old and jaded on par with me. Boo hoo.

"Mazzata
terrificante" credo sia l'espressione più adatta per definire il debut
album dei bolognesi Murder Therapy, band dedita a un sound pesantissimo e
spietato, infarcito di tecnica e preziosismi strumentali. Non c'è un attimo di
tregua: fin dall'inizio l'ascoltatore è percosso nella maniera più feroce
possibile: una tremenda carica in controtempo con una selva fittissima di
riffoni psicotici a darle man forte si abbattono con violenza sul povero
ascoltatore, costretto a soccombere all'inaudita ferocia degli emiliani. Niente
breakdown, niente pause melodiche: i nostri tirano il freno solo per
abbandonarsi a brevissime dissonanze chitarristiche ('Equilibrium' e
'Asymmetry') o per darci una mera impressione di calma nella lunga e squisita
Delirium, unico brano superiore ai tre minuti, che parte da una situazione di
armonia per poi ritrovarsi nel più efferato caos. Sono uscite di questo genere
che alzano il livello del metal di una nazione arretrata (dal punto di vista
musicale) come l'Italia. Ci auguriamo che i metallari tricolore capiscano.

Avevamo
lasciato i bolognesi Murder Therapy col demo The Therapy dell'anno
scorso. Un lavoro di puro e semplice Death Metal, ch molto mi colpì proprio per
la semplicità della proposta. Dopo un solo anno riecco il quintetto emiliano
presentarsi all'appuntamento col primo album forte di un contratto con la
olandese Deity Down Records.
Symmetry of Delirium segue la psicotica tendenza del demo che l'ha
preceduto: una base di Death Metal che più classico non si può (Suffocation,
Morbid Angel) unita a patterns tipici del Death moderno (All Shall
Perish, Job for a Cowboy). Il risultato è questo disco composto da
nove tracce che riescono a non scadere mai nel banale, grazie a dei cambi di
tempo che sanno anche di cambi generazionali: ti trovi da un secondo all'altro
dal Death al Death-core e viceversa.
Non c'è
un pezzo che sia uno che scada in questo lavoro, che si tiene per tutta la sua
durata su di una media decisamente alta. Ed è stata un'impresa ardua riuscire a
trovare una song che emergesse maggiormente rispetto le altre; solo dopo
numerosi ascolti posso dirvi che la doppietta dei pezzi #3 e #4 ( Staring
at the Zodiac e la schizofrenica Tales of the Bizarre)
riesce ad elevarsi leggermente in più rispetto il resto. Ancora una voltaci
troviamo davanti ad un'ottima band italiana accasatasi con una label estera.
Demerito delle case discografiche italiane o semplice rapacità della label di
Breda? Vi dirò, a questo giro non m'importa.M'importainvece che Symmetry of
Delirium sia uscito:edè anche un gran bell'album.

MURDER
THERAPY es una banda boloñesa con apenas un par de años de vida,
aunque está formado por músicos de cierta experiencia. Formados inicialmente en
el 2007 y tras pasar por los habituales cambios de formación propios de las
bandas noveles, encontraron una line-up estable con la que publicaron un EP de
título “The Therapy”, donde dieron rienda suelta a su americanizado y
moderno Death Metal. La demo recibió críticas positivas, y no sólo en los
fanzines transalpinos, lo que les llevó a firmar por el sello holandés Deity
Down Records para la publicación de su primer larga duración, que no es otro
que este "Symmetry Of Delirium".
Italia nunca fue un pais referente en el Death Metal europeo. A pesar de su
extensión, pocas bandas han conseguido dejar huella allende sus fronteras,
siendo quizás NATRON su banda más exportada. Pero en los últimos años las
bandas italianas están asomando la cabeza y se están haciendo un hueco poco a
poco, sobre todo en lo que a Brutal Death se refiere. En los últimos años han
surgido algunas bandas interesantes y que merecen atención. Gente que destaca
por una muy buena calidad técnica, caso de los más conocidos HOUR OF PENANCE,
FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE o los aún desconocidos OMEGA, cuya pista recomiendo seguir.
MURDER THERAPY siguen la estela de estas bandas y le dan
fuerte al Brutal Death que está teniendo auge en el país transalpino. El nivel
técnico que poseen es elevado para tratarse de un disco debut, y lejos de
encorsetarse en los parámetros más estandar del Death Metal, enriquecen su
sonido con algunos elementos deathcore, que quedan patentes en temas como "Staring
At The Zodiac". En "Symmetry Of Delirium"
encontraremos influencias old-school de bandas tipo IMMOLATION, pero también
algunos toques más modernos en forma de riffs nerviosos y esquizofrénicos
recordando a bandas tipo CEPHALIC CARNAGE. Aunque afortunadamente los elementos
más modernos no cobran demasiado protagonismo y los italianos reparten cera de
la buena. Todos los temas está perfectamente construidos con estructuras
enrevesadas totalmente adictivas.
Por el nombre de la banda y por los títulos de los temas me jugaría una mano a
que las letras tratan sobre serialkillers. Tampoco nos sorprenden con la
duración del álbum, poco más de media hora como cualquier disco de Brutal Death
que se precie. El sonido del álbum es excelente, sin caer en el pecado de sonar
sobreproducido. "Symmetry Of Delirium" está
grabado en los mismos estudios romanos que utilizan los mencionados HOUR OF
PENANCE y FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, bandas con las cuales también comparten
productor.
En definitiva, nos encontramos ante una banda sólida que puede dar que hablar
en los próximos años, con un debut de muy alto nivel bajo el brazo. Si te va la
música brutal y técnica, este puede ser tu próximo descubrimiento.

MURDER
THERAPY är ett ganska nytt band i projektform från Italien. Sångaren Riccardo
Meschiari och basisten Simone Esperti (ex. CREATION OF MADNESS) drog igång
verksamheten och värvade gitarristen Francesco D´Adamo (CRYPTIC THEORY) och
sedan tillkom trummisen Andrea Cavalieri. Tidigare i år övertogs trumstolen av
Marco ”Samu” Bolognini (CHAOS AMONG NAMELESS), och han tog med sig en extra
gitarrist i form av Sean Worrell, från samma band. De sägs spela en personlig
mix av dödsmetall med mycket inspiration av amerikanska band. Bandet har fått
ganska mycket uppmärksamhet i media och numera också skivkontrakt med Deity
Down.
Hör jag MALEVOLENT CREATION och CANNIBAL CORPSE? ”The Scourge” inleder frenetiskt
och kontrollerat. ”Samu” får jobba bakom trummorna, och låter passande nog som
en blandning av trummis och maskin. De blir mer egna i ”Extra-Ordinary Perfect
Machine”, Simone gör ett snyggt basparti. Riccardo varierar sången och inspelat
tal bidrar till att göra låten intressant. Det är inte omöjligt att ”Samu” är
ett trumfynd, särskilt om han sätter detta live.
”Tales
of the Bizarre” hintar lite om eget sound och andra drag som förgyller, men det
känns inte som om det händer i varje låt. Jag tror att bandet vill låta mer som
i korta instrumentala ”Equilibrium”, klassisk och postmodern innovativ
dödsmetall helt enkelt. Kanske är det svårt att få till egenheten med growl,
”Two Shots in Colbroke” når också en bit, men inte hela vägen. Kanske behöver
genren en ny sångstil, skrik eller growl känns som om de är i vägen för alla
snygga gitarrslingor och trumkomp. Det blir mer eget med en sorts ihålig growl
i ”Asymmetry”, som också är en ganska kort låt. Avslutande ”Delirium” är nog en
form av titellåt. Den funkar men många idéer dämpas av growl. MURDER THERAPY
gör en riktigt bra skiva men konkurrensen i genren är hårdare än METAL.

Have you
heard of an Italian based band called Murder Therapy?...haven’t you heard
their just taken from the oven debut album “Symetry of Delirium” brough
by the folks of Deity Down Records?...not yet?...Well, let me tell you that if
you are one of those mumbling brutal death metal maniacs always searching for
new forms of brutality, dude…you got a a get a hold on this one…that’s for sure.
Murder
Therapy is an extremely talented, not boring band, emerged from some sewer in
Bologna, these folks have managed to come up with a musical proposal that
relies in a killer cocktail of brutal death metal with not few reminiscences of
US cult acts such as Suffocation or the devilish Immolation.
The
entire album has 9 tunes, and right from the very beginning you think “Holy
Shit…these bastards are simply amazing”, furious, fast, tight and with lots of
tempo changes, the vocal approach simply flawless, as it should, raw, crude,
deep, in low tones but adding variety to the overall sound of this band that
enjoys kicking asses all around.
The
album announces 9 tracks, however, there is a 10th one hidden at the end, this
proves that these folks were really thinking on bringing something interesting
and entertaining, and well, they did it!!!.IIf you ask me, ok Ronald, but how
does this band sound, let me put it in this way, this is like listening Suffocation/Immolation
but with the sound of latest Pestilence “Resurrection Macabre” album…did I make
my self clear????!!!!
So here we go with the usual wrap up, Murder Therapy, an intense band from Italy presents their debut full length album called “Symetry of Delirium”, an opus of extreme and straight to the point brutal death metal blessed with an exquisite production to guarantee the perfect satisfaction of “psychopathic customers” that keep begging for a little bit of Murder Therapy that will cure them of all that neo metal core screamo copies that infest the scene all around these days.

Death
metal har alltid varit en genre som handlat om extremer, men de sista åren har
allt tagits till överdrift. Handlar det inte om att spela snabbast så ska
gängen försöka gräva sig längst ner i källaren eller spela så in i helsike
tekniskt att det blir snudd på olyssningsbart. Death metal har i mångt och
mycket gått och blivit en tävling snarare än en kulturyttring och därmed tappat
charmen.
Därför är det skönt när det dyker upp grupper som Murder
Therapy. Ensemblen bildades i Bologna så sent som 2007, men här finns
ändå inga tendenser till att haka på någon utstuderad trend eller försök att
vara värst på något sätt. Gruppen fokuserar på att spela juste och groovig
death metal och det allena. Resultatet låter inte vänta på sig.
De här italienarna sällar sig till andra av mina death metal-favoriter som Trauma (Polen) och Benighted
(Frankrike) utan att på något speciellt sätt påminna om dem. Det som får mig
fast är det ärliga uppsåtet och sättet att handskas med världens kanske
krångligaste musikstil utan att det blir konstlat. Det har de tre gängen gemensamt.
”Symmetry of delirium” är varmt producerad och går rakt på sak. Det är hårt,
men ändå inte något knockoutslag. Lagom är ingen positiv komplimang i den här
genren, men känns ändå lämplig att fälla om det här vaxet. Här finns tydliga
kopplingar till Florida-scenen och lyssnar man noga hörs till och med The Crown här och var. Inte minst i Marco Bologninis
hetsiga trumspel. Murder Therapy blandar och ger och levererar en vass death
metal-platta baserad på vad death metal ska vara. Inte en massa tekniskt
överljudstrams.
Eller som en viss tillverkare hade sagt om ”Symmetry of delirium” varit
maltbrygd: inga tillsatser, bara öl.

This
relatively new band from band Italy is a good example of taking some old school
death metal mix it with some mathcore, some metalcore and a few hints of
Meshuggah put in into a blender and: Voila! an original record. In theory it is
maybe this easy but to put this in practice is a whole different story. The old
school death metal influences are too much thirteen in one dozen sounding to
connect with the “modern sounding math- and metalcore parts. With these parts
the band tries to give you some insides in the head of a psychotic person or a
sociopath. All this is written after analyzing and observing the aspects of
mental deviance. The band likes to call it serial-psychic-death metal. But I
don't find it that hysteric. The band will do good by trying to drop the old
school Cannibal Corpse influences and replace them with some more modern
technical death metal. Benighted has released a good example of this with their
latest record “Icon” On the other hand the production sounds surprisingly good
for a first full length. Every instrument is audible, there is no fuzzy sound
and the vocals are projected and rest on top. Also the instrumentation on
Symmetry Of Delirium is quite good. You can hear that these guys have prepared
their selves well before recording this album. So potential enough for the next
record to score in the lower eighties.

Listen kids, this is what happens when death metal turns completely one-dimensional. This band is a mechanical riff generator whose "input" consists of the CANNIBAL CORPSE discography and "output" is a rhythmically and melodically random pattern of nerdy jazzcore death metal that sounds like a bunch of MESHUGGAH worshippers with Asperger syndrome. From this rigid, industrial matrix of double bass percussion and clichés that stopped being brutal in 1994, it's hard to grab enjoyable bites beyond something like the screeching of dissonant strings in "Staring at the Zodiac" that induce fond memories of VOIVOD. Vocalist Riccardo Meschiari has precisely one tone in his George Fisher-inspired vocals, except when he considers it's sensible to emit a higher pitched scream, which uncannily reminds me of the horrible squeals invented by JOB FOR A COWBOY or someone even worse, who knows?

Desde
Italia llegan Murder Therapy, un grupo que se formó en 2007 y tras un EP
titulado “The Therapy” que sacaron el pasado año, ven como la suerte (o su
calidad más bien) les sonríe y la compañía Deity Down Records les ha echado un
cable para que “Symmetry of Delirium” vea la luz.
Ante un grupo novel uno siempre tiende a ver más fallos que aciertos debido a
la carencia de madurez que generalmente tienen sus componentes. Pero esto no
pasa con este grupo. Murder Therapy suenan como si llevasen años y años tocando
juntos, con una solidez aplastante. Su Death Metal de corte brutal suena como
una losa.
Las referencias serían grupos estilo Suffocation, aunque van mucho más a fuego que
estos y son más técnicos. Si pillamos la velocidad de los discos de Krisiun o
Hate Eternal y les metemos un poco de la técnica de Psycroptic quedaría un
combo veloz y agresivo que contiene ambas facetas. Además, se palpa por los
cuatro costados una influencia notable de grupos de Deathcore como Job For A
Cowboy o Despised Icon. Los riffeos son generalmente muy rápidos pero por
momentos, machacan nuestros oídos con una dosis extra de densidad y rítmica,
sobretodo hacia la parte final del disco. La batería aplasta hierba por donde
pisa, ayudada por un bajo potente y con mucha presencia. En cuanto a los
registros vocales son 2, el clásico gutural, y otro más chillón pero con un
tono agónico de lo más idóneo y que se sale algo de los cánones del género.
Es un disco corto, de tan sólo 32 minutos, donde 10 de ellos suponen la
duración de la última pista, “Delirium”, la más variada de las 9. Si me tuviese
que quedar con un tema, sin duda sería este último. Aquí las partes vocales
están excelentes. La voz agónica tiene mucho más protagonismo, sobretodo hacia
el minuto 3 en adelante. Este tema en realidad dura aproximadamente unos 6
minutos, el resto es pista sin sonido hasta casi el minuto final que contiene
una parte secreta atmosférica y con bastante que ver con el empezar de
“Asymmetry”. Los demás temas también están muy bien, destacando piezas como
“Extra-Ordinary Perfect Machine”, “Tales of the Bizarre” o “Two Shots in
Colebrook”, sin perder fuelle por el camino y guiándonos hasta el final del
disco mediante una apoteosis sónica.
Murder
Therapy es un buen grupo y aunque ya otros tantos han hecho lo mismo que ellos,
se han sacado de la manga un disco muy recomendable y que merece la pena
adquirir, sobretodo para los que son fans del estilo. La producción es de lo
mejor que he escuchado en este género en un tiempo. Suena como una bala de
cañón dirigida hacia nosotros. Apuntar el nombre porque seguramente den mucho
de qué hablar próximamente.

debut de esta jovencísima banda italiana que en menos de dos años ha logrado
hacerse un hueco en el complicadísimo mundo del death metal... todo gracias al
fantástico EP que les sirvió de carta de presentación, “The Therapy”, el cual
recogió críticas excelentes y les sirvió para fichar apenas unos meses después
de su edición con el cada vez más interesante sello holandés Deity Down
Records... pero, ¿qué es lo que hace a esta banda tan especial?, pues
sinceramente, nada, no vais a entrar absolutamente nada nuevo en “Symmetry Of
Delirium”, el valor de este trabajo no se encuentra en lo que hacen, sino en
cómo lo hacen... Murder Therapy te atrapan desde el primer acorde con un death
metal a medio camino entre lo técnico y lo caótico, tocado en su mayor parte a
medio tiempo, pero con un nivel de intensidad en todos y cada uno de sus temas
simplemente acojonante, con cortes rozando el brutal death, incluso el
grindcore, y sobre todo grandes dosis de deathcore americano aquí y allá, pero
lo que es más importante, sin un segundo de pausa...
Es cierto que aún les queda mucho camino por recorrer a estos italianos...
aunque técnicamente es un disco muy bien ejecutado, sobre todo a nivel de
batería, hay momentos, fundamentalmente los más técnicos, con algunas partes
que pueden llegar a recordar a bandas como Meshuggah o Cryptopsy, en los que se
nota su juventud, pero es un problema que seguro resolverán con un par de años
más de práctica... tampoco acaba de convencerme del todo la producción, no es
tan potente como debería, tan impactante, a pesar de haber sido grabado en un
estudio de suficiente prestigio en Italia, el 16th Cellar Studio, por el que ya
han pasado bandas de estilos similares como Hour Of Penance o Fleshgod
Apocalypse, así que quizá haya sido cuestión de echarle más horas en
producción, es decir, más pasta, otro problema que puede resolverse de forma
fácil en el futuro... y finalmente, el artwork queda en un simplemente
correcto, con una buena portada pero un libreto bastante mejorable, sobre todo
a nivel de maquetación, de nuevo más pasta...
A pesar de estos puntos negros, he de reconocer que “Symmetry Of Delirium” me
ha gustado, y mucho... es de esos discos que disfrutas desde la primera
escucha, de principio a fin, de esos que te enganchan sin paliativos y te
apetece ponerlo una y otra vez... y, como comentaba al principio, todo esto sin
ser un trabajo absolutamente rompedor, por lo tanto no me cabe ninguna duda que
es un muy buen disco, como no me extraña la meteórica carrera que llevan estos
cuatro colgados llegados desde Bolonia... y mucho ojo porque esta gente van a
estar, seguro, entre los grandes del género en dos o tres años, tiempo al
tiempo...

In metalmiddens wordt er over Italië steeds met enige hilariteit gesproken. Het
land levert nogal wat bombastisch powermetalbands af, die hun zanglijnen soms
rechtstreeks uit Verdi's libretto's lijken te hebben gehaald. Daarnaast is er
natuurlijk ook de erg typische uitspraak van het Engels, die enig vermeend
serieux al rap de das om doet. Van beide euvelen heeft Murder Therapy echter
geen last.
Ten eerste omdat de band superbrute, technische death metal speelt met vooral
Amerikaanse en een beetje Zweedse (Meshuggah!) invloed. Ten tweede
omdat je toch geen ruk verstaat van brulboei Riccardo. Overigens een erg
straffe brulboei, want hij weet zijn gutturale klanken goed af te wisselen met
psychotisch geschreeuw en nog een paar andere vocale trucjes. Erg bruut en
gepast smakeloos maar alles behalve monotoon, en dus is de "zang" een
eerste meerwaarde voor 'Symmetry of Delirium'.
Er is meer, de band slaagt er namelijk in om hun erg hoogstaande, soms
verbazingwekkend technische spel te integreren in negen overwegend korte en onderling
onderscheidbare nummers. In nauwelijks een half uurtje is de storm overgewaaid
en nergens heeft de luisteraar de behoefte gevoeld op zijn uurwerk te kijken.
Het is een zeldzaamheid in dit genre, bands die to the point kunnen komen en
hun vertoon van extreme gitaarkunde niet rekken totdat het gênant wordt.
Het hoofddoel van 'Murder Therapy' is de luisteraar platmeppen met een razende
storm van laaggestemde, vingervermorzelende metalriffs. Ze weten de luisteraar
echter ook te boeien. Onder andere in opener 'The Scourge' en 'Staring at the
Zodiac' horen we listig geplaatste mijnenveldjes van dissonante
gitaarakkoorden; te kort om als lead te classificeren, maar net lang genoeg om
even de aandacht af te leiden van de ranzige moordpartij.
Old school ruig hakken verstaan ze ook erg goed: 'Two Shots in Colbroke' en
'Hidden in Lies' zijn overwegend snelle nummers met een typische, hakkende riff
en razend dubbel basdrumwerk. Het leuke aan deze nummers is dat ze ondanks hun
beperkte lengte toch wat afwisseling bevatten zonder richtingloos of enerverend
te worden. Met name het tweede nummer neemt even wat gas terug om een erg vette
groove toe te laten. In 'Extraordinary Perfect Machine' horen we ook zo'n begin
van een infectueus ritme, dat nummer trakteert ons bovendien ook op een slam
breakdown. Je weet wel, een trage passage die zeer nadrukkelijk uitnodigt tot
het kapotslaan van dingen met de blote vuisten.
'Tales of the Bizarre' heeft ook zo'n trager stuk, maar dat nummer is in
tegenstelling tot de acht anderen wel een beetje richtingloos en
aandachtsverslappend. Met bijna vier minuten is het ook het op één na langste.
Het slot van de cd zit met 'Assymetry' en 'Delirium' ook verduiveld goed in
elkaar. Het eerste is een traag stukje griezelmetal, met een instrumentale
opbouw en een slepende riff. 'Delirium' bouwt aanvankelijk voort op die
dreigende sfeer, door met stilte te beginnen en dan langzaam op gang te komen.
Dat wordt geapprecieerd want de totale lengte van de track is tien minuten. In
die tijd passeren er verschillende beenharde, technische death metal stukken,
maar is er ook plaats voor een beetje basale melodie in een aantal tragere
stukken. Eveneens horen we ook nog een keer van die bevreemdende dissonante
non-leads. Zanger Riccardo eindigt zijn bijdrage aan deze plaat met het
neurotische mantra "Save me, save me, save me." De
gitaristen laten hun instrumenten nog wat feedbacken, waarna de luisteraar
achterblijft met een psychotische grimas.
Murder Therapy brengt met dit debuut een onverwachte en aangename verassing mee
uit Italië, in een genre dat vooral door Amerikanen gedomineerd wordt. Ze
hebben een herkenbare stijl die techniek combineert met een beetje groove, en
vooral de discipline om met geen van die twee uit de bocht te vliegen. Het album
is sterk genoeg om overeind te blijven in de death metal lawine die dit najaar
ontketend wordt door nieuwe platen van Nile, Vader, Dying Fetus en Black Dahlia
Murder. Hopelijk vindt het ook genoeg luisteraars.

metalrajongót megkérnek, hogy mondjon egy olasz zenekart, akkor kötve hiszem,
hogy egy death metal együttes neve fog eszébe jutni. Szinte minden stílusból
van már jeles képviselőjük legalább az európai színtéren, de bevallom, hozzám a
Maleficarum és az Excidium híre jutott csupán el (már ami a tiszta death metalt
illeti) rajtuk kívül egyetlen olyan csapat sem rémlik, ami ezt a stílust
játszaná, nemhogy ebből is a technikásabb fajtát. Egy még szinte meghódítatlan
terület előtt áll tehát a Murder Therapy, nézzük, a debütalbum alapján mennyire
lehet sikeres ez a hadművelet.
Nos, az
analógia abszolút helytálló, egy ilyen erejű gyilkos fegyverrel én is nyugodt
szívvel lépnék bármilyen idegen földre. A zene kegyetlen, technikás death metal
rengeteg ütemtöréssel, és itt-ott egy kis core-os hatással, de pont annyival,
amennyi még nem riasztja el az old school metal iránti rajongókat. Ezt
precízen, kiválóan adja elő az ötösfogat, és mindehhez egy olyan hangzás
párosul, amire már majdnem rá merem mondani, hogy tökéletes. (Egy fél
másodpercnyi hiba ugyan itt is van, egy felesleges robbanáseffekt ugyanúgy
bekerült ide, ahogy a Pathology lemezénél is, és arra az egy hangra be is
torzít). A dalírással sincs különösebb gond, bár itt már kevésbé sikerült olyat
alkotni, amivel levettek volna a lábamról. Van egy-két nagyon jól megírt dal,
mint az „Extra-Ordinary Perfect Machine” vagy a „Two Shots In Colebrook”, ahol
egyrészről kidolgozottabbnak éreztem a témákat, másrészről például utóbbi
refrénjében az a hard rockos elem kifejezetten jól sikerült, egyedi ízt
kölcsönöz a zenekarnak. A csapat mindvégig keményen játszik, és ez olykor a
megjegyezhetőség rovására megy, tehát Necrophagist-os/Arsis-os szólókat,
riffeket senki ne várjon, a Murder Therapy zenéje merő brutalitás. A rejtett
tracket - ami valami szöveg rámondva az „Asymmetry” introjára – nem teljesen
értettem, és kicsit feleslegesnek tartom, de végül is hangulatban ideillik,
úgyhogy nem ront a lemez összképén.
Az
albumot legalább olyan nehéz volt pontoznom, mint megemésztenem. A produkció
minősége hibátlan, az album olyan keményen szólal meg, amiről a nagyobb
zenekarok is csak álmodnak. A zene komplex, precízen előadott, hibátlan, az
átlagból jóval kiemelkedik, de kevés az igazán kiugró momentum. Viszont eddig
csupán egy EP-t adtak ki, ami meglehetősen pozitív visszajelzéseket kapott, és
azzal együtt látható, hogy a csapat tehetséges. A lemez második fele szerintem
erősebb, és ez az irány több lehetőséggel kecsegtethet. Mindent összevetve
elmondható, hogy a Murder Therapy debütálása jól sikerült, és megvan rá az esély,
hogy a későbbiekben a nem talján zenerajongók rajtuk keresztül ismerhessék meg
az itáliai death metal szcénát. A 'Symmetry Of Delirium'-hoz viszont óvatosan
közelítsenek, mert „nagyot rúg”!

Brutally fast gutteral death metal from Bologna, Italy. This CD is a constant barrage on the senses and doesn't let up until you stop listening. "Symmetry of Delirium" is a good mixture of "old school" and "new school" death metal. The band has successfully melded the two into one sound. The frequent tempo changes and sheer brutality of this release make it a must own, must listen CD. Fans of death metal will hear the influences of Suffocation Pestilence and even some Immolation. These influences add to the strength of the CD and the overall enjoyment of this release. This is death metal in its rawest, truest form with the advantage of proper prodcution to capture the music as it was intended.

Italian death
metal band Murder Therapy discharge their furious metal on Symmetry Of
Delirium, as you endure vocalist Riccardo Meschiari's wrath with "The
Scourge" as he release his aggression with the usual grunts, growls and
screams. Murder Therapy's other members unload a bombardment of furious
instrumentation, keeping it together like true professionals amongst all the
chaos. Symmetry Of Deliriun's tracks are fairly unrelentless in their
rampant brutality, whether it's the music or lyrics which are also full on at
times, the volatile metal fueled "Tales Of The Bizarre" is an
explicit read "Nice to eat you, spank me with a spike paddle",
there's some confronting material. Symmetry Of Delirium has a technical
ingredient to its brutal blast fest; bands such as Psycroptic do spring to mind
listening to this album. End result is Symmetry Of Delirium is an
explosive metal CD from Murder Therapy.

Murder
Therapy is a young band from Bologna, Italy and is signed to
Dutch label Deity Down Records. After their debut EP in 2008 they replaced
their first drummer for Marco Bolognini from technical deathcore band
Chaos Among Nameless, who brought Sean Worell with him as second
guitarist. With the new line-up they finished songwriting for Symmetry Of
Delirium, their first full-length.
Despite this band has only been together since 2007 it isn’t noticeable in
their music, because Murder Therapy delivers a fine piece of technical
skilled brutal death metal. The blastbeats rapidly follow up on each other, but
are often broken by heavy breaks or sudden twists and turns that keep every
song on this album interesting. Everything seemed to be played with real ease,
which isn’t logical considering that their stuff is clearly inspired by the
American death metal scene. Yet they can also be compared with Italian monsters
Hour Of Penance and Fleshgod Apocalypse, who recorded their albums in the same
studio.
The
production is impeccable; the drums sound brutal and low but every small detail
is still clearly audible, while also the guitars and vocals are perfectly mixed
into the whole, giving this album a very natural sound. I highly recommend
Symmetry Of Delirium to all who dig some hi-speed modern technical brutality.

I bolognesi
Murder Therapy offrono un death metal di tutto rispetto senza compromessi e
senza paura di niente e di nessuno. Diciamo da subito che il lavoro non deve
essere giudicato per l’originalita’ che non offre niente di nuovo a quello che
l’intero panorama brutal-death è in grado gia’ di suo di esprimere, ma quello
che colpisce e’ proprio l’impatto terremotante e la ferocia inaudita che si
riesce ad ascoltare durante tutta la durata dell’album. Ottimo il livello delle
registrazioni, tecnicamente ineccepibili, i M.T. sono una realta’ concreta del
nostro panorama italiano, e piacerebbe vederli presenti in maniera piu’
assidua.
Ripeto
hanno tutte le possibilta’ di sfondare non manca proprio niente a questo gruppo
nuovo ma gia’ veterano. Il suono è caratterizzato da riff taglienti, cambi
repentini, stacchi improvvisi e ripartenze paurose, ritmiche pure-aggressive e
growl da vero suicidio, ingredienti che fanno di “Symmetry Of Delirium” un
lavoro veramente brutale.
Tra i
brani piu’ riusciti da citare “Extra-Ordinary Perfect Machine”,”Tales Of The
Bizarre” e “Hidden In Lies” oltre a “Delirium” che racchiude quelli che sono
oggi i nostrani. Non mancano anche piccoli esperimenti come la strumentale
“Equilibrium” troppo corta per essere ben giudicata e le classiche brutal-song
“The Scourge” e “Staring At The Zodiac” che sono nella norma canzoni che non
riescono ad esplodere.
Un gruppo di veri animali, con i denti ben affilati, non consigliato a chi
soffre di claustrofobia e paure interiori, un disco di buona fattura che
esprime tutta l'esperienza che questa band bolognese ha accumulato con i propri
mezzi. Un disco che fonde sonorità del passato con energia pura, complimenti.

Anche
questa volta avevo visto bene… Nel recensire, ottimamente, il demo di esordio
dei Murder Therapy, oltre ad esaltarne le immense doti gli auguravo di
riuscire a superare i confini italiani, troppo stretti per la loro ottima
proposta. E così è stato, visto che la band bolognese è riuscita a firmare un
contratto con la olandese Deity Down Records, per la pubblicazione del primo
full length. Accasatosi presso i 16th Cellar Studio di Stefano Morabito, ormai
una garanzia in ambito estremo, e death metal in particolare, il quintetto
registra nove brani, nove schegge impazzite, nove rasoiate in pieno viso. Già,
è questo che è “Symmetry of delirium”… Se già nel demo di esordio “The therapy”
i nostri ostentavano una capacità compositiva fuori dalla norma, con questo
nuovo capitolo riescono, per quanto impossibile possa sembrare, addirittura a
superarsi. Trentatré minuti di insana violenza, ed è un bene che l’album duri
così poco, perché sono sicuro che nel tentativo di dilungarsi i nostri
avrebbero perso questa freschezza e quest’immediatezza che invece hanno
dimostrato di avere. I brani raramente superano i tre minuti, ed è proprio
questa furia iconoclasta l’arma vincente del disco. Non c’è spazio per
respirare, immersi come siamo in vere e proprie bordate di brutal death metal
di chiaro stampo americano. E i nostri riescono ad essere letali sia nei brani
più sparati che nei rallentamenti morbosi che di tanto in tanto fanno capolino
e che spezzano un po’ la tensione. Tecnici, complessi e veloci, ma al tempo
stesso immediati, i riff di D’Adamo e Worrell si inseguono, si intrecciano, si
sdoppiano, ottimamente sorretti dalla prova disumana di Marco Bolognini dietro
le pelli, un vero e proprio portento, calcolando anche che è giovanissimo. Se a
questo aggiungete l’ottima prova di Riccardo Meschiari dietro il microfono,
capace con disinvoltura di alternare un profondo growl a scream malati, il
gioco è fatto. Non c’è un brano che merita più di altri di essere nominato,
anche se forse la doppietta finale “Asimmetry”/”Delirium” riassume al meglio lo
stile della band, racchiudendo tutti quegli elementi a cui accennavo poco fa.
Ed è proprio questa capacità di risultare al tempo stesso schiacciasassi e
melodici (per quanto questa parola possa essere usata in un genere come il
brutal death metal), cervellotici e claustrofobici ma immediati, che rende i
Murder Therapy superiori alla media delle giovani band italiche, e non solo.
L’unico rammarico che ho è proprio che mi trovo davanti ad un combo di Bologna,
perché se i nostri fossero, che so, floridiani piuttosto che californiani, ora
starebbero già girando il mondo in compagnia dei più blasonati act americani.
Non scherzo se vi dico che lo stivale ha un nuovo grande nome su cui contare… i
ragazzi hanno stoffa e si faranno avanti a furia di coltellate e non ci vorrà
molto prima che arrivino ai vertici della scena death tricolore. Le altre band
sono avvisate. I Murder Therapy hanno il dente avvelenato e hanno lanciato la
loro sfida, e lo hanno fatto senza mezzi termini…

MURDER THERAPY is a relatively new band out of Italy. They
formed in 2007, released a demo in 2008 and now they have released their first
album. You wouldn’t know it from just listening to “Symmetry Of Delirium”,
though. You’d think that these guys have had a few years to carve out their own
little niche, but this is the band’s second overall recording.
What a first impression! This starts off with a blast, a brutal
beating to your head that doesn’t slow down no matter how much you want it to stop.
It starts off vicious and heavy, and stays that way all the way through. Even
though it’s pretty much a relentless assault, “Symmetry Of Delirium” has two
qualities that make it stand far above other albums that can also be described
as an “aural assault”. For starters, instead of being constantly played at
breakneck speeds, MURDER THERAPY stays more in the mid-tempo, while going to
hyperdrive on a few occasions; and instead uses the slower tempos for some
twisted riffs.
The other quality is that there is a sense of demented
spontaneity that permeates this record. The songs are pretty much unpredictable
with a gamut of changes in structure, where a song you thought was going one
way will make an unexpected turn and go in a whole new direction, and there is
this flair of playful psychotic glee that is always present and it makes the
album THAT much more fun to listen to.
There is also a penchant for experimentation by either trying to
splice in a different genre with Death Metal (“Staring At The Zodiac”) or using
some weird sound effects whilst the onslaught (“Equilibrium”), just to give the
album more life and more character.
I hope these guys stay on the right track, because for a debut
album, this fucking KILLS.

Von
einem Longplayer zu sprechen und dann unter der 30-Minuten-Marke einzulaufen
ist schon etwas gewagt. Von der oben genannten Spielzeit dürfen nämlich weit
über zweieinhalb Minuten abgezogen werden, weil der letzte Track
"Delirium" nach gut sieben Minuten mittels Leerlauf auf die
10-Minuten-Marke gehievt wurde.
Ansonsten
kann sich das Debütalbum dieser jungen italienischen Combo mehr als sehen
lassen. Das Quintett aus Bologna hat sich brutalen Death Metal auf die Fahne
geschrieben. Das ist nun aber ein weitreichender Begriff, denn von
ultraschnellem Monsterbrutalogefrickel bis hin zu vertrackten Rhythmen könnte
das theoretisch alles sein. Nein, vor Murder Therapy muss man insofern keine
Angst haben, als dass sie den Normalo Deather überfordern könnten. Klar gibt es
hier an und ab extremes Gefrickel, klar sind die Songstrukturen in kein
gängiges Schema zu pressen und klar sind die Rhythmus- und Taktwechsel
Achterbahn-artig ausgefallen, aber Murder Therapy verlieren trotz aller
Komplexität nie den Song aus den Augen. Da kommen mir dann immer ein wenig die
Kollegen von Infernal Poetry
in den Sinn, die dieses Kunststück ähnlich locker schaffen.
Manchmal
aber würde ich mir einige Ideen, und davon gibt es auf Symmetry Of Delirium
genügend, etwas mehr ausgefeilt und ausgereift wünschen. Auch etwas mehr eigene
Identität (Immolation
und Morbid Angel lassen
grüßen) wäre manchmal gut, aber ansonsten muss man die fünf Jungs zu diesem
sauber produzierten Album wahrlich beglückwünschen. Wer seinen Death Metal
komplex aber dennoch nachvollziehbar mag, ist hier genau an der richtigen
Stelle.

On their "The Therapy" EP Bologna, Italy-based
death metallers Murder Therapy played an anonymous style of chunky death metal
that was equal parts "The Bleeding" era Cannibal Corpse and
"Foreshadowing Our Demise" era Skinless. One year later Murder
Therapy debut on Deity Down Records with "Symmetry Of Delirium" and
they have become so much better. Combining the chunky nature of Aborted circa
"Engineering the Dead" with semi-technical and high speed blasts that
remind of Hour Of Penance, (early) Krisiun and Hate Eternal's debut
"Conquering the Throne" this label debut is so much better. Recorded,
mixed and mastered at 16th Cellar Studio with Stefano Morabito (Fleshgod
Apocalypse, Hour Of Penance, Vomit the Soul) "Symmetry Of Murder"
comes with a massive crunchy and bass-heavy production that puts emphasis on
the band's killer bottom end groove. All in all, "Symmetry Of
Delirium" is a more groovy, technical and overall brutal release than
their 2008 debut EP. While they aren't quite on the same page as Hour Of
Penance, Murder Therapy have improved drastically compared to a year ago. If
"Symmetry Of Delirium" is any indication Murder Therapy should be
able to come up in the ranks of the Italian death metal scene soon.

Davvero una bella sorpresa, questo lavoro dei Murder Therapy: “Symmetry Of Delirium” è un disco che, pur non offrendoci niente di nuovo, compie il suo lavoro con classe e personalità. Si tratta di un death metal di stampo americano, quindi molto tecnico e molto violento, reso frizzante ed interessante dalla scelta di non limitarsi ad un mero assalto a colpi di blast beats preferendo delle partiture in continua evoluzione. Detto dell'approccio vocale, che richiama moltissimo i patterns di George “corpsegrinder” Fisher, bisogna dire che il riffing si rifà spesso a quegli arrangiamenti noisy e sghembi che sono stati tanto usati dai Gorguts, dagli ultimi Immolation e, perché no, anche dagli ultimi Infernal Poetry. Symmetry Of Delirum è, quindi, un lavoro davvero maturo e ricco di idee, in cui dei musicisti superlativi riescono a ricreare la magia di un genere spesso molto didascalico. Forse la copertina ed il titolo possono ingannare, ma credetemi: non è il solito disco di death metal.

How many techno-brutal Death Metal bands do we really
need? I used to like a few technical elements in music, until I found out that
too much was, well, too much. Technical Death Metal, Mathcore and such things,
are good to show off how good a player is… but at this time and age, where
computers can make your average band to sound like a 10 hours a day rehearsed
band, that is really irrelevant. 15 years ago, doing something like this takes
a lot of attitude… nowadays it takes just a lot of bits. Really. And while this
Italian band sounds like they have mastered their instruments long time ago,
and they have a heavy, almost synthetic production, too damn good to be true,
the fact is that I get lost between the weird arrangements and their monotonous
vocalist. On one hand they try to follow the brutal American Death Metal way,
you know CANNIBAL CORPSE, SUFFOCATION, the more technical MORBID ANGEL things,
and touches of CYRPTOPSY. On the other they just wanted to show how many riffs
and rhythm changes can be done in a song. I think you get the idea. The guitars
are heavy and up-front and the drums sound really fantastic, if I must give
credit to the band is that the production is very good, but then it also does
sound way too perfect to be true. After a few listening some riffs tend
to make sense, but then again, if I play this one on random, things sound all
similar. Now, very few bands can come out playing a very high and technical
form of music, with NECROPHAGIST does a great work in a similar style, but they
also try to make things sound more coherent and straightforward. I am sure
there must be some fans for this kind of style, but again it is so limited and
really soulless, that most of the bands like in this case, sound the same and
without a real identity. Some few riffs sounded to me like PANTERA in essence,
and that is exactly some of the stuff I do not want in my Death Metal to be
included. The opener song 'The Scourge' ended up being the best one on
this, but things get a bit denser, and at the end you are left with 'Delirum'
running at exactly 10:00 minutes which is basically a 5 minute song and then
other 5 minutes of noises, silence, and there a quite sinister outro. This
is the kind of Death Metal that will pass on unnoticed; no matter how high are

Therapy wurden im Jahre 2007 in Bologna gegründet und zwar von dem Gitarristen von
Cryptic Theory, zusammen mit zwei Mitglieder der Band Creation of Madness. Ein
Drummer kam hinzu und zack, schon ging es ab. In 08 wurde die EP"The
therapy" auf die Menschheit losgelassen und man konnte einen Deal mit
Deity Down Records ergattern und nun liegt das Debutalbum vor. Aufgenommen
wurde der ganze Spaß in den Studios, wo auch Hour of Penance und Flehgod
Apocalpyse ihre Aufnahmen getätigt haben. Alle gute Voraussetzungen, würde man
meinen. Die Produktion ist wirklich cool und die Musik spielt sich im Death
Metal Sektor ab. Allerdings gehen mir die Burschen teilweise echt zu wirr vor.
Ich würde den Sound als modernen Death Metal bezeichnen und dieser gefällt mir
eben nicht so, da doch sehr viel experimentiert wird und alles sehr technisch
vorgetragen wird. Songs wie " The scourge" oder "Assymetry"
knallen ganz schön nach vorne weg, allerdings geht man immer wieder ins
technische und manchmal sucht man auch atmosphärische Parts. Teilweise kommen
sie mit recht coolen Riffs herüber und auch die Tempiwechsel sind durchaus
interessant, aber die herumspielereien gefallen mir nicht so. Trotzdem solltet
ihr euch ein eigenes Bild machen und die Band mal anchecken.

Kurz und
bündig. So könnte man in einem einzigen Satz die Länge des Debütalbums des
Italoquintetts „Murder Therapy“ beschreiben. Knallt man dem geneigten Hörer
doch in etwas mehr als 30 Minuten, neun Stücke um die Ohren, wovon die meisten
die 3-Minutengrenze nur knapp überschreiten. Nur mit dem zehnminütigem
„Delirium“ hat man ein echtes Monster am Start.
Ansonsten
beherrscht hier Death Metal der alten Schule das Szenario und das mit einer
Intensität, die echt unter die Haut geht. Hier wird wunderbar nach alter Manier
geholzt, ohne dabei antiquiert und staubig zu klingen.
Wenn man dann noch Songs vom Schlage „Asymmetry“, „“Staring at the Zodiac“ oder
die „Tales of the Bizarre“ hört, erkennt man, hier ist eine Truppe junger
Leute, die es durchaus packen kann, die Todesbleiwelt richtig durcheinander zu
wirbeln.
Für eine Band, die erst seit 2007 existiert und bislang nur ein Demo draußen
hat, ein echt beeindruckendes Debüt. Sollte man sich auf jeden Fall eingehender
mit beschäftigen.

Verdammte
Axt, hier wird gehackt, dass einem schwindelig wird. Die 2007 in Italien
gegründeten MURDER THERAPY spielen auf ihrem Debüt „Symmetry Of Delirium“
lupenreinen, ultrabrutalen Technik-Death Metal Marke IMMOLATION, CANNIBAL
CORPSE oder MORBID ANGEL. Und das auf hohem (irgendwie logisch)
spieltechnischem Niveau, denn ansonsten braucht man in so einem Genre ja gar
nicht erst musizieren.
Die insgesamt 9 sauber produziert und gespielten Songs fönen einem in absoluter
Lichtgeschwindigkeit derartig fix die Haare trocken, dass man selbst bei
winterlichen Temperaturen morgens zeitig aus dem Haus kommt. Man sollte
allerdings nicht zu verschlafen sein, denn ansonsten bekommt man die 312 Breaks
pro Song nicht mit. Melodie: Fehlanzeige. Harmonie: Schon gar nicht. Hier wird
neben der technischen Finesse vor allem eines geboten: Kompromisslosigkeit.
All diejenigen, die auf Metalcore und ähnlich moderne Versatzstücke scheißen,
brutalsten Deathmetal der alten Schule lieben und zudem einen Soundtrack zum
Wälder abholzen und Massenmorden brauchen, ab zum Musikdealer eures Vertrauens.

Irgendwie schräg, dachte ich mir insgeheim, nachdem ich
mir in aller vermeintlicher Ruhe "Symmetry Of Delirium", die nach dem
besonders in Italien gut angenommenen Demo "The Therapy" erste
Veröffentlichung in voller Länge von MURDER THERAPY, zu Gemüte geführt habe.
Schräg aus dem Grund, weil das Album eine derart kompromisslose Sprache
spricht, äh musiziert, dass man erst einmal gar nicht so recht weiß, was gerade
über einen selbst hinweg gerollt ist.
Vielleicht macht aber gerade das Gefühl, von einem toten
Metalzug aus Bologna überfahren worden zu sein, den Reiz dieses Debüts aus. Die
zum Teil steinigen Texte hingegen allerdings weniger, das jedoch ist ein
ausbaufähiges Detail, auf das man achten kann, wenn man will, aber nicht muss.
Nach einer zweiten, akustischen Mahlzeit schmeckt mir das Gehörte gleich weit
besser, denn lässt man sich erst einmal gänzlich auf das gemischte Werk von
Stefano Morabito ein, findet man sich in einem martialischen, rauen
Death-Metal-Land wieder, das gleichermaßen vertraut Altbekanntes, jedoch auch
moderne Einflüsse in sich beheimatet. Zweiteres tarnt sich jedoch mitunter so
gut, dass man schon genauer hin hören muss. Mit "Symmetry Of
Delirium" haben MURDER THERAPY etwas geschaffen, das ohne Zweifel auf
weitere Veröffentlichungen, jedoch auch auf noch weitere Weiterentwicklungen
hoffen lässt.

The
Dutch label Deity Down also signed bands outside Holland, among
which the Italian formation Murder Therapy. The latter is a
Bologna-based band with (ex) members of Cryptic Theory, Creation Of
Madness and Chaos Among Nameless, that recorded this album at 16th
Cellar (Rome) with Stefano Morabito (mix and mastering) (Eyeconoclast,
ex-Hour Of Penance, ex-Chthonian Nemeton, ex-Rust Of Reason).
Symmetry
Of Delirium completely lacks of originality. For about thirty minutes
(only), this album brings fast to blasting Death Metal with a brutal and
grinding sound and some slower parts. The morbid tracks are very technical and
rather universal; I mean that the band seems to be inspired by other formations
from Italy, as well as the U.S.A., Canada, Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands and
Germany (etc, of course). This (sounding like, let’s say, Cannibal Corpse,
Aborted, Dying Fetus a.o.) doesn’t annoy me in case the average
quality is satisfying, yet in this case I’m not that convinced. Don’t get me
wrong: this band isn’t bad at all; the members do know how to create extreme
songs with some ingenious elements, and the performance is acceptable. At the
same time I need to praise Riccardo’s bestial grunts! And also the
sinister, horrific atmosphere is a surplus. But I’m afraid the band won’t
exceed the grey masses. Nowadays there’s so much same-minded material, so you
need to be more inventive OR just better than the ‘bunch’. The compositions
don’t give me that ‘waw’-effect, the tracks sometimes are too alike, and the
flat, dull sound even irritates me after a while.

Murder Therapy er en italiensk
dødsmetallgruppering som prøver å ta opp kampen med sine gode venner i Hour of
Penance. Da vet nok den jevne lytter av dødsmetall at vi prater om brutal,
teknisk og sofistikert musikk påvirket av den amerikanske dødsmetallscenen.
Murder Therapy oppgir selv aktører som Immolation,
Cephalic Carnage, Morbid Angel og Cannibal Corpse som
deres forbilder. Da vet de fleste av oss hvor lista ligger.
Innenfor brutal dødsmetall finnes det mange aktører som mangler den nødvendige
variasjonen for å gjøre materialet motiverende å lytte på. Allikevel setter jeg
mye pris på band som for eksempel Cannibal Corpse , fordi de
evner å legge inn fengende partier blant all galskapen og brutaliteten, samt de
har en vokal som er fantastisk overbevisende.
På Symmetry of Delirium blir vi presentert for guttural
brøling typisk for stilarten. En som virkelig imponerer i denne italienske
besetningen er trommeslageren Marco Samu Bolognini.
Mange fremragende trommesekvenser setter tonen for disharmoniske
gitarriff og intrikate tempoforandringer.
Musikken foregår stort sett i mellomtempostil, og det er følgelig ikke en
overdrevet bruk av blast beats, men dobbelbassen går sin seiersgang og er
kreperende effektiv. Undertegnende ble mildt sagt forbauset over det faktum at Marco
bare var 17 år under innspillingen av Symmetry of Delirium. Han
er allerede et råskinn, og hvor god han kommer til å være om fem år tør jeg
rett og slett ikke å tenke på.
Murder Therapy synger om kjente seriemordere og deres
bedrifter. Staring at the Zodiac er for eksempel om det kjente
skrevne kryptogrammet som Zodiac-morderen etterlot seg på sitt åsted. Dette er
for øvrig det sporet som går best hjem hos undertegnende. Her eksperimenter
bandet med taktskifter og det kliniske lydbildet sender ens tankesett mot
Sveriges Meshuggah.
Murder Therapy ivaretar den nødvendige brutaliteten og de
tekniske finessene for å titulere seg som klassisk og brutal dødsmetall. De
musikalske ferdighetene er enorme, men ikke forvent deg noen freske
gitarsoloer.
Symmetry of Delirium varter opp med utelukkende rytmiske
krumspring, men de er til gjengjeld prima. Dessverre for undertegnende er
albumet strippet for fengende melodier og innovasjon. Like fullt blir det
overbevisende, og Symmetry of Delirium er absolutt å anbefale
om man liker Hour of Penance godt.
Til slutt får man overveive om det er verdt å gå til innkjøp av et album som
bare er 30 minutter langt? Murder Therapy går definitivt inn for
kvalitet og driter i kvantiteten.

Neben PERSISTENSE
verblasst das Album von MURDER THERAPY zwar etwas, aber auch hier werden die
Neunziger gross geschrieben, selbst wenn die Vorbilder hier eher CANNIBAL
CORPSE und BRUTAL TRUTH sind. Die Italiener haben mit Riccardo Meschiari einen
Sänger, der schon ganz klar in Richtung Chris Barnes geht und einfach nur ganz
ordinär vor sich hingrunzt. Textlich schlägt man in die selbe Kerbe, Songs über
Mörder und Hass, gerne in der ersten Person, muss ich jetzt nicht unbedingt
haben. "Hidden In Lies", eine Kritik an organisierter Religion und
den Verbrechen an Un- oder Andersgläubigen, kann man hingegen erst nehmen. Das
Tempo der Band dürfte dem Drummer nach Shows und Proben einen soliden
Muskelkater bescheren, aber trotz des extremen Stils vermeidet Marc Bolognini
gekonnt die Monotonie und auch die beiden Sechssaiter brettern mutig um die
Wette. Vom Bass hingegen hört man so gut wie nichts, denn der wird leider
niedergewalzt. Jede beliebige Earache-Platte dürfte gleichwertige oder bessere
Unterhaltung bieten, daher werden sich MURDER THERAPY wohl erstmal regional
oder national durchsetzen müssen. Das Layout ist ebenfalls gerade Durchschnitt,
da hängen diese fünf Südländer optisch echt Jahre hinterher.

In Italien setzt man nun also auf harte Fraktionen. Dass das Virus nun
übergeschwappt ist, find ich besonders toll. Als Fan der Brutalogarde erfreue
ich mich natürlich an dem Album.
Von einer Spielzeit unter einer halben Stunde halte ich persönlich wenig. Da
wurde wirklich etwas gegeizt. Wenn es das Album zu einem FairPrice gibt, ist es
aber on Ordnung.
Zum Thema. Das Debüt dieser Band lässt sich als solches hören. Harte Kost kann
qualitativ überzeugen; so wie hier.
Death Metal ist das Mutterschiff. Zum einen wird der Sound von coolen Rhythmen
getragen - aber in der Hauptsache liegt Mördergeruch über dem Schinken.
Schnell, hart, gehackt und ultra. Ich werde stellenweise stark an Morbid Angel
erinnert. Ein wenig mehr Eigenständigkeit würde der Kapelle gut zu Gesichte
stehen; aber mal ehrlich; was will man heutzutage schon neues kreieren? Es gibt
doch bereits alles. Oder?
Wie schon erwähnt, als Debüt ein klasse Zugabteil. Es zieht da wo es ziehen
muß. Wer sich richtig reinhört, der wird sehr schnell Spaß an der Sache finden.
Bleibt nun zu warten, wie der 2te Streich ausfallen wird?!

Dafür dass Murder Therapy gerade
einmal geschlagene 2 Jahre alt ist, starten die jungen Italiener mit ihrem
Debüt-Album Symmetry of Delirium, das am 15.01.2010 in den Ladenregalen
stehen wird, voll durch.
Bereits bei ihrer Demo The
Therapy, die 2008 erschien, konnten die Jungs beweisen, was sie drauf
haben. Schnelle Gitarren gepaart mit krummen Takten und Technik verleihen dem
Album eine Dynamik, von der sich andere Bands eine Scheibe abschneiden können.
Songs wie „Staring at the Zodiac“ oder „Hidden in Lies“ sind ein
Schlag ins Gesicht und werden jedem Fan des technischen Death-Metals
Freudentränen in die Augen treiben. Selber bezeichnen Murder Therapy
ihre Musik als „Psychedelic Death Metal“ und wer sich ihre Songs angehört hat,
versteht, was sie damit meinen. In den Liedern wird durch düstere
Keyboardintros, beziehungsweise Zwischenparts, eine Atmosphäre aufgebaut, die
einem einen Schauer den Rücken hinunterjagen. Die so aufgebaute Spannung wird
zusätzlich durch die tiefe Stimme Riccardos und die Gitarren weiter verstärkt,
bis das Album in einem Klimax endet und zum Schluss von „Delirium“
ausklingt.
Mit diesem Silberling können sich die fünf Jungs eindeutig blicken lassen, denn
sie zeigen, wie Death Metal sein kann: Kreativ und voller Power.

Das Jahr 2008 brachte uns mit
“The Therapy” die erste EP der frisch gegründeten italienischen Kapelle Murder
Therapy, die vier Stücke amerikanisch orientierten Death Metals enthielt.
Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel und Immolation als auch Macabre – was die
lyrische Seite angeht – hießen die großen Vorbilder. Die guten Rezensionen, die
in der Folgezeit in den Undergroundpublikationen erschienen führten zum Kontakt
mit Gerard vom holländischen Label Deity Down, welcher in diesem Kontrakt
mündete. Im September 2009 erschien dann mit dem vorliegenden „Symmetry Of
Delirium“-Longplayer die Frucht dieser Zusammenarbeit. Im Vergleich zur Demo-EP
hat sich die aus Bologna stammende Truppe auf zwei Positionen verändert. Mit
dem sehr jugendlich wirkenden Marco der Band Chaos Among Nameless hat man ein
neues Tier auf dem Drumhocker verpflichtet und auch der zweite Gitarrist Sean
entstammt eben dieser Formation. So verwundert es denn nicht, dass man – obwohl
dies erst der zweite Studio-Output ist – recht professionell und eingespielt
klingt und die Produktion, welche im römischen 16th Cellar-Studio vorgenommen
wurde, durchaus zu befriedigen weiß. Die Musik selbst wirkt etwas weniger
straight als noch auf „The Therapy“, dafür scheint der technische Aspekt
stärker in den Vordergrund gerückt. Nichtsdestotrotz ist der Sound von Murder
Therapy, egal ob hyperblastend und mit viel Double Bass oder eher im Mid Tempo
angesiedelt, noch immer mega-brutal. Lediglich die Growls und Grunts- von
Fronter Riccardo sagen mir noch immer nicht richtig zu. Aber mit der Meinung

nostra amata, quanto purtroppo snobbata Italia, continua a regalarci assolute
perle nei furiosi campi del metallo morto. I bolognesi Murder Theraphy, dopo
l'ep d'esordio "The Theraphy" danno un'ulteriore, sonante sveglia, al
panorama extreme metal della penisola con "Symmetry Of Delirium". Il
titolo del platter rappresenta bene l'anima dei nostri, ovvero un death metal
tanto tecnico e preciso, quanto schizzato e furibondo. Dall'opener "The
Scourge" alle seguenti tracce, non troverete la minima pausa, se escudiamo
la breve "Asymmetry", che funge da apripista alla distruzione di
"Delirium", ultima e probabilmente migliore traccia del disco,
nemmeno la strumentale "Equilibrium" rappresenta un momento di calma
essendo un concetrato di cinismo.
Mezz'ora di pura ferocia e tecnica, mostruoso il lavoro della sezione ritmica
(giovanissimo e nonostante ciò fenomenale il drummer Marco Bolognini) e delle
chitarre che creano miriadi di riff con gusto impeccabile. Riccardo Meschiari
poi, suggella il tutto, capace di un growl eccezionale e di un ottimo scream,
autore anche dei disturba(n)ti testi, belli i giochi di parole tra gli inizi
dei versi di "Staring At The Zodiac".
Il pregio fondamentale dei Murder Therapy è saper creare ottime strutture per i
brani, fattore non così facile da trovare in molte band, complesse e tecniche
ma allo stesso tempo accessibili e dirette, colpendo sin dalle prime note
l'ascoltatore. Stefano Morabito con i suoi 16th Cellar Studio in fine, mettono
la ciliegina, riuscendo ancora una volta ad ottenere un suono perfetto,
esaltando definitivamente le doti della band. E forse sarà la buona volta, dopo
l'ennesimo grande disco made in Italy, che qualche nostro true metal fan, si
accorgerà che c'è qualcuno di estremamente (più) valido nella nostra scena
metal, al di fuori dei soliti nomi triti e ritriti sia italiani che esteri.

Zum
frühen Morgen is solch ne Mucke genau das Richtige ,um erst einmal wach zu
werden .Denn die 9 Songs auf dem Debüt der Italiener vertreiben sämtliche
Ansätze von Müdigkeit und sorgen von Beginn an dafür , das die ollen Knochen
wieder in Schwung kommen .Obwohl die Spielzeit von unter 30 min . nun nicht
gerade super fett für nen Longplayer ist ,reicht die auf jeden fall vollkommen
dazu aus ,um genügend Energie für den Arbeitstag zu tanken .Das Quintett aus
dem Land der Pizzen offenbart sich uns als Vertreter der verdammt derben ,aber
dennoch technischen Death Metal Riege .Dabei zeigen die sich erfreulich
innovativ und hacken nicht nur ultra derb durchs gesamte Geschehen , sondern
gleiten auch an vielen Stellen mal so richtig in die totale Frickelei ab
.Obwohl ich nun gerade auf diese ganze Verspieltheit nicht wirklich abfahre
,kommen hier gerade diese Sachen irgendwie super rüber ,da diese nicht wirklich
dem enorm fetten Songaufbau schaden .Ihre Art des Death Metal ist hierbei
zwar recht tief im old school Bereich angesiedelt ,wobei man sicherlich den
einen oder anderen Vergleich zu den Konsorten von „Cannibale Corpse“ oder „Morbid
Angel „ ziehen kann ,lässt aber auch an diverse Stellen immer mal wieder einen
leichten modernen Deathcore Einschlag aufblinken .Der Songaufbau bewegt sich
zwar im Aufbau fast durchweg in Richtung der totalen Abschädlung ,bringt aber
ab und an auch mal nen paar ganz leichte Verschnaufspausen mit ein ,um mal
wieder richtig durchatmen zu können . Selbst beim Gesang wird nicht nur
durchweg aus voller Kehle gegrowlt , sondern auch mal mit ner leicht anderen
Stimmlage etwas mehr Farbe ins Geschehen gebracht .Für ein Debüt ist das Teil
echt verdammt super geworden ,wobei man gerade bei den Jungs merkt ,das es auch
in dem Bereich des Death Metals noch nicht zum absoluten Stillstand gekommen
ist ,und durchaus noch so einiges an neuen Innovationen/Kreationen vorhanden
ist .

Zuerst
eine Warnung: Wer dieses Album, diese Band, hört, darf sich hinterher nicht
beschweren und sagen, ich hätte nicht gewarnt! Denn hier gibt es dermaßen einen
auf die Fresse, dass es schon fast an Körperverletzung grenzt. Die Italiener
spielen derbstes Brutalmetal. Sie nennen es Psychotic Death Metal, was
vielleicht sogar noch besser passt. Und wenn sie die Blast-Attacken fahren, ist
man schon ziemlich an Rotten Sound erinnert, obwohl bis dahin noch einiges
fehlt. Und auch Meshuggha wird gepriesen. „Equilibrium“ orientiert sich doch stark
an den Schweden. Hier und da spielen sie sogar Mathcore, was dem Hörer in
Kombination mit dem Härtegrad der Scheibe viel abverlangt. Aber wollen wir uns
beschweren? Nein, denn Murder Therapy sind ja eine Nachwuchsband, und die haben
eben noch das Recht, dass deren Vorbilder heraus zu hören sind. Außerdem machen
sie ihre Sache echt gut, viel zu meckern gibt es nicht. Ein sehr geiles
Debüt-Album der Jungs aus Bologna. Punktabzüge gibt es aber dennoch. Die
Laufzeit (32:23 Minuten) ist ne Frechheit, zumal da auch noch diverse Minuten
beim letzten Song („Delirium“) dazu gemogelt wurden. Effektiv ist dieser Song
ab 5:20 Minuten zu Ende, zieht sich aber mit Rückkopplungen und was weiß ich
nicht noch für Geräusche auf zehn Minuten. Schlecht, macht man nicht! Ein
weiterer Minuspunkt dafür, dass bei einigen Songs der Eindruck entsteht, dass
sie selber nicht wussten, wie und wo sie ihn enden lassen sollten. Aber: Debüt
und dafür Hut ab! Non male fatto.

Italienisches
Gefrickel steht heute an und ich freue mich auf einige technische Spielereien
von MURDER THERAPY. Nach einer EP im Jahr 2008 konnte man sich einen
Plattendeal sichern und nun feuert man also das Debütalbum auf die Menschheit
los. Auffällig finde ich, dass scheinbar alle Technical Death Metal Scheiben
mit dem gleichen Schema daherkommen: Ganz kurzes Intro (meist nur irgendwelche
schemenhafte Geräusche), das fließend in den ersten Song übergeht; danach
folgen kurze, knüppelharte und wahnsinnig schnelle Songs, bis mittendrin
entweder ein Intermezzo oder ein etwas langsamerer und kurzer Song dem werten
Hörer mal eine Verschnaufpause gewährt. Zum Schluss meistens noch eine Art
Outro, das ähnlich schemenhaft wie das Intro ist, aber wesentlich länger,
oftmals quietschen nur noch die Gitarren.
Nun, was soll ich sagen – diese Beschreibung trifft den Aufbau von „Symmetry Of
Delirium“ nur allzu gut. Doch die Italiener haben durchaus dafür gesorgt, dass
man nicht völlig im Mittelmaßgeschwader untergeht, gerade die penibel
ausgearbeiteten chaotischen Elemente machen doch gutes Gefrickel aus, oder? Vor
allem die erlösenden Breaks nach den unheimlich dissonanten Parts gehen runter
wie Öl, das löst die schier unerträgliche Spannung auf, die sich innerhalb von
Sekundenbruchteilen aufbaut und dann viel zu lange an den Nerven zehrt.
Besonders verrückt ist auch der Gesang, der zwar großteils auf solide Grunts
baut, aber auch mal ein schizophren anmutendes Gekreische zum Besten gibt. Wer
drauf steht, seinen Verstand hin- und herreißen zu lassen, der könnte sich in
diese Platte regelrecht verlieben. Eine nette CD für zwischendurch ist das also
nicht, doch das ist auch nicht Sinn und Zweck des Genres.
Der Sound simuliert im Übrigen eine Erkältung mit viel Schleim in den
Nebenhöhlen, das Schlagzeug klingt nämlich stellenweise schon arg dumpf und
auch insgesamt gehen kleine Gitarrenspielereien nicht selten ob der intensiven
Bässe unter. Dass ein Song hängenbleibt oder eine Melodie heraussticht ist
natürlich eine schwachsinnige Idee, die Musik soll ballern und das begierige
erneute Antippen der Play-Taste auslösen und das ist gelungen.
Meinen sehr persönlichen Geschmack trifft das natürlich schon, nach dem fünften
Hören habe ich noch genauso viel Spaß wie beim ersten. Selbstverständlich ist
das nicht Jedermanns Sache.
Grindcore-Einflüsse lassen sich im wirren Gitarren-Gewusel sicherlich auch
nicht abstreiten und die Steilvorlagen der wahnsinnig guten Veröffentlichungen
des letzten Jahres arbeiteten mit einem ähnlichen Rezept, meiner Meinung nach
aber hat OBSCURA diesem Genre die Krone aufgesetzt – zumindest 2009. MURDER
THERAPY fegen mit ihrem Sturm aber auch gut durch die Gehörgänge und stehen
anderen starken Bands in nichts nach, auch wenn das Sahnehäubchen fehlt.

Die Italiener mit dem geschmackvollen Namen MURDER THERAPY konnten für ihren Erstling das holländische Label DEITY DOWN gewinnen und servieren uns darauf eben jenen Sound, den man angesichts des Bandnamens erwarten kann: Im Vordergrund steht das Psychopathengeblubber von Frontmann Riccardo Meschiari - Mensch, was habt Ihr erwartet? Der Typ ist schließlich in Therapie... - der den thrashenden Death Metal der Combo doch deutlich extremisiert. Doch leider zeigt das Gepolter trotz des hohen technischen Anspruchs, mit dem MURDER THERAPY zu Werke gehen, keine nennenswerte Struktur, so daß alle Songs völlig austauschbar klingen. Demzufolge werden von »Symmetry Of Delirium« doch leider nur die Technik-Death-Allessammler auf den Plan gerufen.

MURDER
THERPAPY sind jung, italienisch und haben Bock auf Death Metal. Die gute alte
Spielweise davon, nicht die unter dem unsäglichen Deathcore-Label laufenden
Beatdown-Bree-Bree-Bree-Variante. „Symmetry Of Delirium“ überascht und
begeistert mit neun brutalen, technisch anspruchsvollen Songs, die gerade Fans
der US-Schule für sich gewinnen werde. Die seligen DEFACED CREATION können als
Vergleich herangezogen werden, auch wenn der MURDER THERAPY-Drummer eine
eigenwilligere Spielweise hat und die Texte im feinsten Italo-Englisch besser
nicht ein zweites Mal gelesen werden sollten. Aber wumpe, denn im Endergebnis
kann die Scheibe mit variablen Songs überzeugen und bleibt in punkto Brutalität
durchweg auf hohem Niveau. Kurzum, wer eine richtig gute Death Metal-Scheibe
sucht, ist mit „Symmetry Of Delirium“ bestens bedient.

Extremer, brutaler und
verrückter Death Metal at its best!
Seit
gerade mal zwei Jährchen existieren die Extrem-Deather MURDER THERAPY aus
Bologna um Gitarrist Francesco D'Adamo (ebenfalls Saitenhexer bei CRYPTIC
THEORY) und schon wird dem geneigten Zuhörer ein dermaßen brutales und extremes
Death-Metal-Werk geboten, dass mir die Spucke wegbleibt. Hier stoßen
extravagante Rhythmik und Tonalität auf irrsinniges Riffing und Drumming,
gepaart mit den gutturalen Vocals von Riccardo Meschiari. Die Lyrics sind zwar
ziemlich flach ausgefallen, doch die sind auch eher nebensächlich. Mich
erinnern die Italiener in vielen Momenten an die Kanadier CRYPTOPSY, nur, dass
MURDER THERAPY im Vergleich etwas vom Gaspedal gehen und schneller zum Punkt
kommen; so weist das Album gerade mal eine Spiellänge von 30 Minuten auf, doch
die genügen vollkommen, um die Boxen zu sprengen und schließlich muss man auch
mal Luft holen.
"Symmetry Of Delirium" ist definitiv keine leichte Kost und zündet
frühestens beim zweiten Durchhören. Insgesamt aber bieten MURDER THERAPY ein
Album, das viel Spaß machen kann, sodenn man ein etwas aufgeschlossener Hörer
ist. Daumen hoch!

Absolut
fiesen Death Metal mit hoher technischer Schlagseite bieten uns Murder
Therapy aus Bologna, ganz im Stile amerikanischer Bands wie Dying Fetus
oder Misery Index. Die Italiener versetzen ihre Death Metal-Keule mit
vielen Frickelparts, es wird also auf ziemlich hohen Niveau geschlachtet und
gemordet. Ab und zu treffen aber auch grindige Parts auf das Todesblei und
immer dann, wenn die Gitarren zu Solo-Exkursionen ansetzen bzw. die für Dying
Fetus typischen Obertöne zu hören sind, wird man das Gefühl nicht los, es
rotiere eine CD der Grind/Deather im Player. Leider orientieren sich zu viele
Bands an dieser Formation, ein Schuss der eigentlich nur nach hinten losgehen kann.
Das
Songwriting der Burschen vom Stiefel liegt im Großen und Ganzen, und das ist
das große Manko, im Stile der Amis vom sterbenden Fötus. Als Unterschied zu den
Amis wird sich textlich mit Psychopaten und Serienkillern befasst, im Gegensatz
zu deren Polittexten. Na ja, wirklich neu ist so was zwar nicht, ist aber auch
irgendwo okay, denn zu solchem Geschepper kann man schlecht von Bienchen und
Blümchen trällern.
Vorgetragen
werden diese mit unmenschlichen Vocals von Frontgurgler Riccardo Meschiari,
die so abgrundtief sind, als kämen sie direkt aus den tiefsten Schichten des
Erdmantels. Aufgelockert durch viehische Kreischpassagen wird also auf
Abwechslung geachtet, bzw. alle Trademarks dieser Stilrichtung geboten.
Tja,
jetzt fällt es mir schwer zu sagen, ob der Silberling schlecht oder gut ist,
denn gäbe es Dying Fetus noch nicht und hätten diese dieser Tage nicht
eine absolutes Hammeralbum abgeliefert, Murder Therapy wären ganz heiße
Anwärter auf den Death/Grind-Thron.
Geile
Momente sind auf jeden Fall vorhanden und wie gesagt, spieltechnisch gibt es
nix zu meckern, aber - und jetzt kommt das große 'aber' - es wird halt viel
abgekupfert, statt sich auf Eigenes zu berufen. Gut, es ist kein bloßes
Hinterherhecheln, denn ab und an sind auch eigene Ideen da, nur traut man sich
scheinbar nicht, diese auch in den Vordergrund zu rücken.
Also
Jungs, nicht so oft probieren, es den großen Vorbildern gleichzutun - das
schafft sowieso keiner - dann klappt es beim nächsten Mal, auch mich voll und
ganz zu überzeugen. So bleibt es nur eine weitere Death/Grind-CD, die ins Regal
wandert, zu belanglos um öfter hervor gezogen zu werden, aber zu gut um nicht
zu erwähnt zu werden… Hmm, eigentlich schade.
Dying
Fetus-Fans sollten dennoch mal ein, zwei Lauscher riskieren,
Death/Grind-Alleskäufer können sich das Ding bedenkenlos ins heimische
Schlachthaus holen.

Die Italiener sind scheinbar riesengroße Fans von MORBID
ANGEL (gibt's die überhaupt noch?) und machen da auch keinen Hehl
daraus. "Symmetry Of Delirium" ist dennoch kein Lehrstück.
Und das liegt - objektiv betrachtet - zuerst mal daran, dass das
"Album" nicht mal 30 Minuten dauert. Das hat mich damals bei DEICIDE
schon gestört und finde ich heute immer noch mies. Und wenn dann die 30 Minuten
gerade mal deshalb erreicht werden, weil beim letzten Song ein "Hidden
Track" dran ist ... *argh*.
Aber gut - andererseits wird bei den neun Songs doch ganz gut
gebrüllt und gerifft. Death-Metal mit ein paar Core-Einflüssen. Muss man halt
mögen, das Zeug. +
Der "Gesang" ist brutal und passt super, die Songs sind
wuchtig und aggressiv, allein - der Funke will bei mir nicht überspringen.
Im Ernst jetzt, wie lange ist es her, dass ich das letzte
wirklich gute Death-Metal-Album gehört habe? Ich weiß es nicht mehr (Melodic
Death Metal nehm ich raus). Und das hat sich auch mit "Symmetry Of
Delirium" nicht geändert. Innerhalb der Genregrenzen nett und brutal, aber
das können andere auch (siehe Mastic Scum).
Fazit: Nett brutal und aggressiv, aber eben nur ein weiteres Teil von
vielen.

Symmetrie, viel Delirium
Die Musik von Murder Therapy ist solider Death-Metal, wenn auch kein herausragend guter, mit
leichten Progressive-Einflüssen. Soviel zum Positiven. Ansonsten nervt ihre
neue Platte Symmetry Of Delirium einfach nur mit uninspiriertem Gegrunze und
teilweise ruppig arrangierten, vielmehr derangierten Übergängen zwischen
einzelnen Liedteilen. Der Versuch des anspruchsvollen, komplexen Technical
Death ist nicht gelungen. Da nützt es auch nichts, dass einige Bandmitglieder
zuvor bereits in ein paar mehr oder minder bekannten anderen italienischen
Death-Combos wie Cryptic Theory, Rusted oder Creation Of Madness angehört haben.
Auffällig auch, trotz des Bandnamens, dass sich
mit Staring At The
Zodiac, Tales Of The Bizarre und Two Shots In Colebrook direkt
drei Songs des Albums in leichten Abwandlungen mit dem Thema Serienkiller
beschäftigen. Klar, Tod und Satanismus sind typische Inhalte von Death-Lyrics -
und das ist völlig wertfrei gemeint. Bloß, wenn wenigstens die Texte von Murder
Therapy originell wären, aber, Achtung Textbeispiel, Lyrics wie
„I like to hunt human preys, Killing people is my way of life“ sind einfach nur
unglaublich flach. Man kann es eben gut oder schlecht machen, und Murder Therapy macht es
eher schlecht. Da fällt die bei Death-Metal-Bands ja eh größtenteils zur
Casting-Voraussetzung gehörende Christen-Feindlichkeit, z. B. im bezeichnenden
Titel Hidden In Lies, gar nicht mehr groß auf. Als einziger Anspieltipp
lohnt sich bezeichnenderweise der instrumentale Track Equilibrium. Death Metal aus Italien? Vielleicht für
Newcomer-freundliche Death Hardcore Fans. Altmeistern wie Autopsy oder Obituary ist hier
auf jeden Fall der Vortritt zu geben.

I’ve been receiving promos from Deity Down Records for a couple
of years now, I think, and it’s had its ups and downs. Some stuff have been
really killer while other records haven’t really been my cup of tea. But that’s
left me with a somewhat ambiguous mind when it comes to new promos from them, I
never know what to expect and I can’t be certain it’ll appeal to me. And to be
honest, Murder Therapy’s
debut album has some of the ugliest cover artwork I’ve seen in a long time, so
I didn’t really have high hopes for this one. But I was very pleasantly
surprised only a minute or two into The
scourge, ‘cause it was evident this baby packed a punch.
I’ve read some reviews of this album, and what’s become painfully obvious to me
is that most webzines suck big time, and the people who write for them couldn’t
tell their head from their arse. Hopefully I won’t be considered such as well
after this. Murder Therapy have a somewhat European flair to
their sound, albeit with an American insurgence. The drumming at times remind
me of some Vadermaterial,
but mostly during some of the blast parts, as the remainder of the drumming
here is much more progressive and technical. Everything has a certain
experimental touch to it, and riffing-wise it goes for both technicality and
heavy churning, on occasion actually getting me thinking of what’s otherwise
called mathcore. Symmetry of
delirium contains some of the
spastic, schizo-tendencies of said genre, but sealed within the massive death
metal recipe that remains their base. They can sound just like Derangedone minute while the
next gets me thinking of Dying
Fetus, only to go all-out experimental in riffing to get flashbacks of
earlier The Dillinger Escape
Plan material (minus most
hardcore tendencies, though).
So there’s a wide variety of death metal subgenres and styles comprised into
one album, and it makes for a sound of their own. I wouldn’t consider it to be
outright unique, but I can’t say it sounds really like another particular band.
It’s technical and progressive without getting out of hand. There are quite a
few tempo changes and twists and turns to be discovered, and I love the fact
that they manage to cram in everything into rather short songs, most of which
are under three minutes. Funnily, though, is the fact that the gruffy vocals
remind me of a mixture of Chris Barnes and Corpsegrinder, so I guess that gives
it just a wee bit of Cannibal
Corpse flair while pretty
much not sounding anything like them. The warm production lets every instrument
takes its rightful place in the mix, the drum sound is full and the riffing
heavy. It’s a very massive album that I’m sure will please fans of various
genres as long as they keep an open mind.

Murder Therapy sind noch ganz grün
hinter den Ohren und schicken sich mittels ihres Debüt-Albums an, die
Frickel-Fraktion um ein vielversprechendes, italienisches Quintett zu
erweitern. Wie gesagt – vielversprechend. Also hoffnungsvoll. Denn „Symmetry of
delirium“ zeigt viele gute Ansätze und wütet auch recht gnadenlos im Gedärm.
Nur will der Funke noch nicht so ganz überspringen. Und das liegt einzig und
allein daran, daß sich Murder Therapy nicht auf eigene Stärken verlassen,
sondern mehr oder weniger ihre Lieblingsbands „nach“spielen. Als da wären
Suffocation, Hate Eternal, Meshuggah und Dying Fetus. Außerdem ist es wenig
erfreulich, daß das Album nur durch eine blödsinnige, fast fünfminütige
Geräuschkulisse am Ende auf eine gerade halbstündige Spielzeit kommt. Keine
Ideen mehr? Männer, ihr habt doch Songs wie „Staring at the zodiac“ oder „Tales
of the bizarre“ geschmiedet. Von der Sorte müssten doch mehr zu machen sein,
oder? Euer Death Metal ist wuchtig. Die Technik hat's in sich. Und auf den
Metalcore-Zug wollt ihr auch nicht aufspringen. Also – mehr Experimentierfreude
zeigen, dann wird das nächste Album euer Durchbruch. deitydownrecords.com

erreicht uns dieser Tage ein Vertreter der Ultra-Brutalo Zunft. Gerade mal zwei
Jahre sind MURDER THERAPY aus Bologna am musizieren, konnten aber nach nur
einer EP von 2008 schon ein Deal beim holländischen Label Deity Down in
trockene Tücher bringen. Jetzt erscheint die erste Langgrille "Symmetry Of
Delirium" eben dort. Wobei von einer Full-Lenght zu sprechen ist
angesichts der nur neun Tracks mit einer Spielzeit von gerade mal einer halben
Stunde, die auch nur erreicht wird, weil der letzte Track durch gute fünf
Minuten Stille und ein seltsames Outro in die Länge gezogen wird, fast schon
übertreiben.
Aber sei's drum, was zählt ist die Musik. Das
Quintett frönt dem super brutalen, technisch versierten Death-Metal amerikanischer
Machart. MORBID ANGEL, CANNIBAL CORPSE oder IMMOLATION dürften zu den größten
Einflüssen gezählt werden. Will heißen: Viel verfrickelte Gitarren-Breitseiten,
krumme Tackte, eine ordentliche Portion Chaos, viel Dissonanz und keine
Melodie. Einfach absolute Kompromisslosigkeit. Gleiches gilt auch für den
Gesang, der fast ausschließlich im soliden sub-tonigen Gegrunze hängt und nur
ab und zu in psychopathische, schrille Screams rutscht. Eingängigkeit hat hier
nichts verloren und in fast jedem Song zerhackt eine Vielzahl von Breaks den
Fluss der Songs. So wird zwar viel Spannung aufgebaut, doch gerät dabei des
Öfteren der Song aus dem Visier. Leider ist auch nicht jede Idee wirklich
zwingend oder nachvollziehbar. "Staring At The Zodiac" und "Hidden
In Lies" sind die einzigen zwei Stücke, die sich ein wenig vom Rest
abheben können.
Von der Produktion hätte ich mir mehr Wums bei den
Gitarren gewünscht. Der Gesang ist deutlich zu weit in den Vordergrund gemischt
worden und das Schlagzeug hat ein Wenig zu viel Bässe abbekommen, so dass die
Gitarren oftmals im Hintergrund verschwinden und viele kleine Details verloren
gehen.
"Symmetry Of Delirium" ist schön brutal
und aggressiv. Allerdings gibt es meiner Ansicht nach in diesem Sektor noch
ganz andere Kaliber, die die Messlatte noch deutlich höher gehängt haben. So
bleibt das Debüt von MURDER THERAPY leider nur eines von vielen aus dem
Mittelmaß.

Murder Therapy is the perfect name
for this band, therefore the name reflects accurately sonorous proposal of this
young Italian band: complex sonority, constant velocity, variations
non-connections, unreal sonorous structure and several elements that converge
for the exact sonorous insanity. "Symmetry of Delirium" is the exact
name for the first full album: chaotic sonorities in the limits of the insanity
converge through the uncontrolled sonorous structure for a dimension of
unlimited sonic insanities. "Symmetry of Delirium" is so irrational
and chaotic that you feel an oppression in the definition sense, therefore the
asymmetric songs sound in demented sonic deliriums, elevating the songs at level
of extraordinary insanities. The constant velocity increases the proportions of
the insanity of the complex riffs, leading the senses for a journey of pure
sonorous insanity. But doesn't think that "Symmetry of Delirium" is
just noise without sense, therefore Murder Therapy presents in "Symmetry
of Delirium" intelligence and accuracy, therefore to develop songs in the
limit of the insanity it is a work that requests the maximum of talent and
creativity. "Symmetry of Delirium" is an insane album, but it is a
brilliant album, developed with intelligence. Total sonorous insanity!

So, nun der zweite
Versuch. Nachdem mir der Rechner nach fast fertigem Review abgestürzt ist,
gelingt es mir hoffentlich, die vorhin erzeugten Gedanken sinngemäß wieder auf
dieses (verfluchte) elektronische Papier zu bringen. Da mir bereits vor kurzem
mit der neuen Scheibe von Deathbound ein
30-Minüter unter die Schreiberaugen kam, war ich anfangs recht überrascht,
schon wieder mit dieser Spielzeit konfrontiert zu werden.
Auf
"Symmetry Of Delirium" geht man aber viel technischer zur Sache.
Vertrackt, trickreich und spielversiert zeigen sich die Südeuropäer vonMurder
Therapy, die mit dieser CD übrigens ihr Debüt-Album abliefern. Allgemein
gibt es die aus Bologna stammenden Italiener erst seit 2007, was bemerkenswert
ist, wenn man die kunstvoll konstruierten Soundgebilde durch den Gehörgang
fließen lässt.
Dabei
kann ich der Darstellung von Metal-Archives.com aber nicht folgen, die dort
behaupten, bei Murder Therapy handele
es sich um eine progressive Spielart des Metal. Technisch ja, verdammt schnell
aber sicher. Nur für die Progressivität fehlt mir die Verspieltheit innerhalb
der einzelnen Songs. Kein Wunder, da das Gros der neun Tracks die
Drei-Minuten-Marke nicht erreicht. Nur der letzte Track sticht mit seinen zehn
Minuten (inklusive Hidden Track) etwas heraus.
Die Produktion
ist für ein Erstlingswerk überraschend klar und druckvoll. Die einzelnen
Instrumente, vor allem die Saitenfranktion ist gut differenzierbar, was in
meinen Augen ein Muss bei dieser Art von Musik ist.
Natürlich
ist diese CD weit entfernt davon, leicht eingängig zu sein. Es braucht schon so
einige Durchläufe, um zu begreifen. Doch diese sind dank der relativ kurzen
Spielzeit gut zu schaffen. Von mir fliegen 3,5 Gitarren Richtung Süden.

this album these Italians make their debut, one year after releasing a demo/ep.
Things can go fast but in this case it is justifiable. You only have to listen
once to this album to know that we are dealing with a quality band.
The band plays death metal (what else to expect with a name like this), but is
not as conventional like the average Cannibal corpse clone. At least not the
entire time, off course they use elements of the oldies like Cannibal.. and
Monstrosity but they are less straight forward. From the third song they really
start to experiment with rhythms, crazy riffs and breaks. In various songs they
switch back and forward from mid tempo headbanging material to ball crushing
blast beats and moody instrumental parts. The band members definitely have some
skills and they are not afraid to show it but most important, they know how to
make a song interesting. The vocalist fills up the music with some nice grunts
and screams. And now the unavoidable namedropping not to compare them with but
to make clear with what a quality band we are dealing with, Dying fetus,
Suffocation and Cephalic carnage.
This is a very strong debut. It’s been a long time since something this good
come out of Italy. Highly recommended to fans of the mentioned bands.
